IDSK congratulates Dr. Gorky Chakraborty (PD), IDSK, Prof. Sarit K. Chaudhuri, Alipurdur University, Dr. Biswanath Saha, Presidency University and Dr. Jigme Yeshe Lama, Calcutta University on receiving an ICSSR research project titled “Everyday Negotiations of Indigenous Traditions and Local Governance Institutions in the Darjeeling–Sikkim–Dooars Region.”
The study will examine how communities negotiate authority, identity, and governance in the region. We wish Dr. Chakraborty and the research team every success.

The IDSK held a press conference on 13 March 2026 at the Press Club Kolkata to announce its forthcoming academic and research initiatives, including the introduction of an MA Programme in Development Studies and activities under the Rabindranath Tagore Centre for Human Development Studies and the Rabindranath Tagore Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

The event was attended by members of the press and media, along with academicians, scholars, and students. Distinguished speakers included Omprakash Mishra, Ashutosh Ghosh, noted climate activist Jayanta Basu, Sabuj K. Chaudhuri, Sibaji Pratim Basu, and Byasdeb Dasgupta.

A press conference will be held on Friday, 13 March 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Press Club, Kolkata, to share information on the forthcoming initiatives of the Institute of Development Studies Kolkata (IDSK), the Rabindranath Tagore Centre for Human Development Studies, and the Rabindranath Tagore Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Development (RNTCCCSD).

IDSK is set to introduce an MA programme in Development Studies, the first of its kind in Eastern India. In addition, several research and academic initiatives are being planned under the Rabindranath Tagore Centre for Human Development Studies, focusing on programmes inspired by the ideals and intellectual legacy of the Poet-Philosopher Rabindranath Tagore.

The newly established Rabindranath Tagore Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Development will function as a nodal centre for action-oriented research and related initiatives on climate change and sustainable development, with a particular focus on West Bengal, and more broadly on Eastern and North-Eastern India.

The press conference will be attended by Professor Omprakash Mishra, President of IDSK; Professor Ashutosh Ghosh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta; Dr. Jayanta Basu, noted climate activist; and Professor Byasdeb Dasgupta, Director of IDSK.

All are cordially invited to attend the press conference at the Press Club, Kolkata.
