Security Measures Announced for Bye-Election in Nagaland
1. As per the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the bye-election to the 28th Koridang Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district in Nagaland is scheduled to be held on April 9, 2026, with the counting of votes set for May 4, 2026.
2. The Office of the Chairman, Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG)/ Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB), has issued security instructions in connection with the upcoming bye-election and has emphasized the need for all factions of the NSCN to adhere to the core objective of maintaining peace during the election period.
3. In line with this, a strict directive has been issued banning the carriage of weapons of any kind within Mokokchung district.
4. The ban comes into effect from March 24, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice. The lifting of the ban will be decided after May 4, 2026, based on the prevailing security situation.
5. These instructions apply to all cadres, including holders of special Ceasefire Identity Cards.
6. The authorities have urged all stakeholders and the general public to cooperate fully in ensuring a peaceful and successful conduct of the bye-election.
