वरुण उत्तराखण्ड प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी (पीसीसी) एवं किसान कांग्रेस में प्रदेश महामंत्री के पद पर कार्यरत हैं और बीते लोकसभा चुनाव के दौरान गठित प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी में प्रचार समिति के सदस्य के रूप में कार्य कर चुके हैं । वरुण उत्तराखंड हाई कोर्ट में अधिवक्ता हैं और मात्र 27 साल की उम्र में नैनीताल जिले की कालाढूंगी विधानसभा क्षेत्र से विधायक पद के लिए चुनाव लड़ चुके हैं। वरुण एक स्वतंत्रता संग्रा

म सेनानी परिवार से हैं और उनके दादा व दादी स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी थे। उनके पिता डॉo भूपाल सिंह भाकुनी कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता हैं व प्रदेश प्रवक्ता रह चुके हैं। वह कुमाऊं विश्वविद्यालय के छात्र संघ अध्यक्ष रह चुके हैं।

Varun is a Youth politician working for the upliftment of the economically backward and weaker sections of the society. He is serving as the State General Secretary (P.C.C) for INC Uttrakhand and the Kisan Congress

An MBA-IB post-graduate with dual specialisation in Marketing and International business from Amity University, Noida, Varun has attended Semester exchange programs at the prestigious Birkbeck College, University of London and Anglia Ruskin University, Singapore. He graduated with BBA from Amity University and has done his schooling from Sherwood College, Nainital and St. Varun’s education and diverse corporate experiences (both in India and abroad) give him a good foundation and broad perspective to address the growing challenges of today’s India and its future. Varun comes from a family with a rich political heritage. His grandfather Late Shri Hayat Singh Bhakuni and Late Smt. Vaijayanti Bhakuni were eminent freedom fighters and laid their lives for the freedom struggle of India. His father Dr. Bhupal Singh Bhakuni has been a political figure since his college days and served as President and Vice-President of students union Kumaon University, Nainital. He served as the Spokesperson for Indian National Congress Uttarakhand and was a part of the UKPCC (Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee). He contested elections for the State legislative assembly from Nainital constituency in 1996 and 2002 and has ever been involved in the upliftment of Scheduled castes, Scheduled tribes, Other backward classes and the weaker sections of the society. The sacrifice and commitment of his previous generations inspired Varun to join politics at the young age of 27 and work for social-welfare. Varun became a part of the Indian National Congress UKPCC (Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee) on the 26th of January, 2019 and is serving as an Advocate at the High Court of Uttarakhand at Nainital. He contested for MLA State Legislative Elections in 2017 from 60, Kaladhungi Consituency in Uttarakhand at the young age of 27. He is currently serving as the State General Secretary (P.C.C) for INC Uttarakhand and the Kisan Congress.
