Bulk processing of Amla Squash by Members of Mellisa Honey Group

Mellisa Honey group was formed by a group of trainee beneficiaries under Beekeeping. The members of the group gradually ventured into processing and value addition of local produces. One such intervention is Amla Processing. As a healthy alternative compared to synthetic squashes available in the market the technology (Source :KAU) was promoted through capacity building programmes conducted at KVK, Kasaragod.

The Post harvest processing and Nutrition laboratory at ICAR-KVK, Kasaragod facilitates incubation facility for Entrepreneurs to have Hands on experience on small scale production under the technical guidance and monitoring of experts. Supplementary Mix “Poshak” (Source of technology ,UAS,Dharwad) is one such activity taken up at KVK by imparting skill oriented training under EDP. This intervention has culminated into five entrepreneurs successfully marketing the product under different brands.

🌱 Towards Sustainable Agriculture Through Vermicomposting 🌱.

Meet Sri. Krishnaprasad Bhat P. and Mrs. N.G. Usha Saraswathi from Adhur village, Kuntar, Karadka Panchayat, Kasaragod.After leaving his IT career, Krishnaprasad returned to farming with a vision - to make his land of arecanut, coconut, pepper, banana, moringa, vegetables & paddy more sustainable. In 2025, with guidance from KVK Kasaragod and scientists at CPCRI Kasaragod, they started vermicomposting.
Under KVK’s Swachhata Programme, they received earthworms to produce compost in large volumes. Today, they are successfully using vermicompost in their farm and setting an example for eco-friendly agriculture. 💚

In connection with World Breastfeeding Week 2026, celebrated (August 1st to August 7th), ICAR KVK Kasaragod in collaboration with ICDS, Kasaragod for Extension functionaries Conducted an awareness campaign
Topic: "Health and Nutritional Benefits of Breastfeeding"
Date & Venue: 04.08.2026 at PJ Hall, ICAR CPCRI, Kasaragod
The programme was inaugurated by Shri Abdullah Kunji, Kasaragod Block Panchayat President.
Smt. Arfana Najeeb, Vice President, Mogral Puthur Panchayat presided over the function.
Resource Person: Dr. Sarita Hegde, SMS, ICAR KVK Kasaragod handled sessions for extension functionaries, pregnant and lactating mothers.
Around 100 participants attended, most of them with their babies. The presence of two male participants was noteworthy.

ICAR KVK Kasaragod conducted an on campus training

"Training programme on the topic Microgreens Cultivation, Nutrition and Business potential" on 4.8.2026 at DJ Hall of ICAR CPCRI, Kasaragod.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Chandran K P, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR KVK Kasaragod. Dr. Jayashree M P delivered the welcome speech.
The training programme covered 3 aspects
✅cultivation of Microgreens handled by Dr Benjamin mathew(Subject Matter Specialists of ICAR KVK Kasaragod )
✅Nutritional significance of Microgreens handled by Dr Sarita Hegde (Subject Matter Specialists of ICAR KVK Kasaragod )
✅Practical session on cultivation of Microgreens as well as its advanced business potential handled by Shri Mithun Pallikandy ( Renowned Agri-entrepreneur)
The participants (51) included farmers, youth, members of the Savayava group, entrepreneurs, and women farmers attended the training programme.
Training coordinated by: Jayashree M P (Subject Matter Specialists of ICAR KVK Kasaragod )
Shri Shyamprasad, Shri Sumod, Shri Manjunath and Shri Bhagath assisted the training in various ways.
