"Kumari Maha Sabha" is the brain - child of a galaxy of intellectuals who hail from Kanyakumari District but are settled at various parts of the world. Kumari Maha Sabha has taken shape from the noble thoughts and vision of "Nanjil Christian Welfare Association of Bangalore", which was started in 1993 by a few for the welfare of Christians who migrated from Kanyakumari District to Bangalore for gr
eener pastures. Currently, the Association is doing very well and has more than 400 families. The thought "Why not we do something for the welfare of our brethren in the place of our origin" was the beginning of the formation of Kumari Maha Sabha, a secular forum. Nanjil Christian Welfare Association provided a seed money of Rs. 2.00 lakhs towards the initial expenditures like - Deposit for the office building, Purchase of Furniture, Computer and Printer etc. Even though 66 years have passed since India's independence, the development of Kanyakumari district is quite inadequate. The district has produced many leaders who are contributing to the welfare of the country at various positions in different parts of the country and outside. But many people of the district are still facing malnutrition; lack of safe drinking water, frequently interrupted power supply, etc. There are miles to go for a reasonable change in the socio - economic fabric of the district. Poor infrastructure, lack of industries, unemployment etc have to become the thing of the past. Unless these aspects are addressed in a systematic and time bound approach, there cannot be any marked improvement in the standard of living of the people. It has been proved beyond doubt that the real development can come only from the people. It is a Herculean task but not an impossible one. The four pillars of democracy namely, Legislature, Executive, Judiciary and Media; with its limited resources can help only the crying or agitated child. Therefore, it is necessary that we interact with the Government Departments & Statutory bodies on a continuous basis for the fulfillment of the objectives. The primary objective is to reach out to the disadvantaged and the less privileged sections and to improve the standard of living in the district as a whole - to bring it to an enviable level of "A Model District". The major objectives of the Kumari Maha Sabha are the following:-
To bring understanding, unity, fraternity and lasting peace among the people of the district irrespective of caste, creed and religion
To work for the socio-economic development of the district
To bring in a scientific and industrial temper and a good work culture
To drive away poverty and illiteracy
To help to bridge the supply-demand gap
