One of the oldest surviving temple structures in Tamil Nadu, Kailasanathar Temple in Kanchipuram was built in the 6th century AD. This is considered to be the first evidence of a Hindu temple in Tamil Nadu since earlier temples built from bricks could have been damaged or destroyed.
