On August 9, 2025, Jorhat College Library Celebrates Dr. S.R. Ranganathanâs 133rd Birth Anniversary: Honoring the Timeless Value of Books
Jorhat College Library, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), hosted a special lecture program titled âThe Relevance of Books as a Source of Knowledge in the Contemporary Eraâ to mark the 133rd birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science. The event was skillfully anchored by Indrakshi Das, the librarian of Jorhat College Library.
The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Paran Baruah, an eminent scientist and President of the Jorhat College Governing Body. Dr. Soumitra Puzari, the Principal, delivered a warm welcome address, setting the tone for the occasion. Dr. Smritirekha Baruah,president, Jorhat District Librarian Association as well as former librarian of Jorhat Agriculture University Library, presented an insightful lecture on the enduring significance of books in the modern age.Dr Paran Baruah also spoke on the occasion.
The event was graced by the presence of Utpal Dutta, Vice Principal of the college, who joined the dignitaries on the dais. Adding a cultural touch, Pratisha Borah, a student from the Sociology Department, performed a melodious rendition of a Jayanta Hazarika song. The vote of thanks was offered by Indrakshi Das,the librarian of the college as well as the coordinator of the event.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff, reflecting the collegeâs commitment to fostering intellectual growth and honoring the legacy of Dr. Ranganathan.
