28-Year-Old Man Found Hanging in Apple Orchard in sugoo Handhama Shopian
Shopian, September 7: A tragic incident was reported in the Sugoo Handhama area of Shopian, where a 28-year-old man, identified as Nadeem Nazir Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, was found hanging in his apple orchard.
A police team from Police Station Zainapora rushed to the spot and initiated necessary proceedings.

*SSP SHOPIAN CONDUCTS COMPREHENSIVE CRIME AND OPERATIONAL REVIEW MEETING*

September 06: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian Sh. Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary-JKPS, conducted a comprehensive Crime and Operational Review Meeting at the Conference Hall DPO Shopian, to assess the prevailing crime situation, operational preparedness and overall performance of police units across the district. The meeting was attended by Addl. SP Shopian, all DySPs, SHOs, IC PPs and IC SOG Camps of the district.

During the meeting, the SSP Shopian reviewed the prevailing law and order situation, crime trends, investigation of cases, pending investigations, preventive policing measures and various operational activities.

The SSP Shopian directed all supervisory and investigating officers to ensure timely, professional and effective investigation of criminal cases, with close supervision and expeditious disposal of pending investigations. He stressed the need for strict adherence to established procedures and effective coordination among police units and other stakeholders.

The operational preparedness of police units was also reviewed in detail. The SSP Shopian emphasized enhanced patrolling, surveillance, area domination and proactive policing, particularly in vulnerable and sensitive areas. Officers were directed to further strengthen intelligence gathering and maintain a high level of alertness to effectively meet emerging security and law-and-order challenges.

Underscoring the importance of people-centric policing, SSP Shopian directed all officers to remain accessible to the public, respond promptly to genuine grievances and maintain professional standards in all police-public interactions and also called upon all ranks to remain vigilant, proactive and committed towards ensuring the safety and security of the people of Shopian.

_Action Against Illegal Mining_
*J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN SEIZED 05 TRACTORS; 02FIRs REGISTERED*

September 06: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Shopian Police seized five tractors involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from different areas of the district.

During routine patrolling, a police party from Police Station Zainapora intercepted and seized two tractors while they were allegedly engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In this connection, FIR No. 114/2026 registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant provisions of law and investigations have been initiated.

In a similar action, police party from Police Station Heerpora intercepted and seized three tractors involved in illegal mining activities without mandatory permissions. In this regard FIR No. 98/2026 under relevant provisions of law was registered in Police Station Heerpora and investigation has been initiated.

Shopian Police reiterated its firm commitment to protecting the districts natural resources and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public has been urged to cooperate with the police and report any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.

J&K Police In Shopian Apprehend 07 Persons In Suspicious ‘Trath Gola’ Transaction; ₹5 Lakh Cash Recovered; Case Registered

September 05: In a significant action, Police in Shopian have apprehended seven persons in connection with a suspicious transaction involving a so-called “Trath Gola”, which was allegedly being projected as a rare and valuable meteorite stone.

The apprehended individuals were brought to Police Station Heerpora for questioning and further legal proceedings. They have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat son of Habibullah Bhat resident of Bagi Islam Baramulla, Safeeruddin Mir son of Haneef Mir resident of Rajghat Baramulla, Abdul Rashid Kirmani son of Ghulam Nabi Kirmani resident of Rawalpora Srinagar, Mohammad Shafi Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir resident of Zaloora Sopore, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bakloo son of Ghulam Mohammad Bakloo resident of Pushroo Shangus Anantnag, Arshid Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Subhan Wani resident of Khurri Batpora, Kulgam and Syed Gulzar Ahmad son of Syed Qamar Din resident of Lakdipora Nihama.

During the preliminary enquiry, Police recovered ₹5,00,000/- in cash from the spot along with a box containing a stone, which was allegedly being represented as a rare and valuable “Trath Gola”/meteorite. Moreover, two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK01AQ-1311 (Alto) and JK03B-5955 (Alto) were also brought to Police Station Heerpora for further examination.

In connection with the incident, a case vide FIR No.95/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered in Police Station Heerpora and further investigation is underway to establish the complete facts and circumstances surrounding the transaction.

Police have cautioned the general public against falling prey to fraudulent claims involving so-called rare, precious or meteorite stones. Citizens are advised to verify the authenticity and value of such objects through competent authorities before entering into any financial transaction.

Today, an accident took place padpawan when an Eco vehicle bearing registration No. JK11H-2789 skidded off the road. In the accident, the following persons sustained injuries:

All the injured persons were shifted to DH Shopian for treatment.

*J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN CONDUCTS WILD CANNABIS DESTRUCTION DRIVE IN WACHI*

September 05: Continuing its sustained efforts to curb the drug menace, Shopian Police in coordination with the Excise and flood department, carried out a special drive against wild cannabis in the Wachi area.

During the operation, teams identified and destroyed wild cannabis plants spread over different locations in the area. The wild cannabis was eradicated on the spot to prevent its misuse for narcotic purposes.

The action reflects the firm commitment of Shopian Police and the district administration towards eliminating the drug menace at its roots by targeting the cultivation and availability of narcotic substances. Such proactive measures are being undertaken regularly across the district to ensure a safe and drug-free environment.

The general public is once again urged to cooperate with the police and report any instances of illegal cultivation or drug-related activities to the nearest police establishment.
