Reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility, Heritage School enthusiastically participated in the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan by organizing a comprehensive awareness programme on 29 April, 2026, to promote a drug-free and healthy lifestyle among students. This government-led initiative aims to curb substance abuse through awareness, prevention, early intervention and rehabilitation, while advocating a compassionate and stigma-free approach towards those affected.
The programme commenced with a solemn pledge during the morning assembly, where students collectively reaffirmed their resolve to stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a healthier society.
The highlight of the programme was an engaging awareness session conducted by Dr. Sophia Jan, District Health Officer, Jammu. In her address, Dr. Jan elaborated on the significance of this nationwide campaign initiated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the launch of the 100-day campaign in the Union Territory under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on 11 April, 2026. She explained that the mission is built on three key pillars—awareness, enforcement and rehabilitation. Encouraging students to stay away from drugs, she advised them to seek guidance from parents and elders during challenging times and to contribute positively to society. She appreciated the school’s efforts and expressed hope for continued initiatives to spread awareness. Her session effectively highlighted the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse, while emphasizing the importance of early prevention, timely intervention and strong community support systems.
To encourage creativity and enhance awareness, a painting and poster-making competition was organized on impactful themes such as “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life,” “Save Yourself from Drugs,” “Nasha Mukt Jammu,” and “Nasha Ek Lailaj Bimari.” Students participated with great enthusiasm, expressing powerful anti-drug messages through vibrant colours and compelling visuals. The activity served as an effective platform for self-expression and reinforced the importance of making informed and healthy choices. The best entries were awarded by Dr. Sophia Jan. Ayushree of XII B, Sanvi Kundal of IX C, Shanaya of IX D, Ayati Mahajan of X E, and Dhanshree of X D emerged as winners.
The programme concluded with the presentation of mementos and saplings as tokens of gratitude to the distinguished guest. The Principal, Mr. Akash Pradhan, addressing the gathering, highlighted that drug addiction is like a festering wound that gradually erodes health, destroys lives and disrupts families. Students were urged to remain vigilant, refrain from harmful habits and report any concerning behaviour to elders or authorities, while extending empathy and support to those affected rather than stigmatizing them.
Overall, the initiative marked a significant step towards reinforcing the vision of a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir. It not only raised awareness but also empowered students to take responsibility and emerge as proactive ambassadors of positive change in society.
