Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked several states to conduct mock drills for effective civil defence on May 07.
However, the timing of the Centre's order to mock drill is crucial. The last such drill was conducted in 1971, the year in which India and Pakistan went to war on two fronts.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked states to take the following measures:
👉🏻Operationalisation of Air Raid Warning Sirens;
👉🏻Training of civilians, students, etc, on the civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a hostile attack;
👉🏻Provision of crash black out measures;
👉🏻Provision for early camouflaging of vital plants/installations;
👉🏻Provision of crash black out measures;

👉🏻Updation of evacuation plan & its rehearsal;
After the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 innocent civilians were shot down by terrorists with links to Pakistan, there seems to be no sign of a de-escalation along the border.
