On Thursday, 19th February at 12:00 noon, at the Sarojendra Dev Art Gallery Auditorium, Jalpaiguri Municipality will host its first-ever historic “Citizens’ Convention.” The convention aims to engage citizens in meaningful dialogue and constructive discussions on the 25-year development plan of Jalpaiguri city (2026–2051). With the objective of building a Swanirbhar Bangla , the Government of West Bengal has undertaken another significant people-centric initiative.

Under this special programme, new registrations are being facilitated for Banglar Yuva Sathi, assistance schemes for agricultural labourers and other farmers, and the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme.

The programme is being organized across the state. As part of this initiative, a special camp has been arranged at the Madrasa Maidan in the town, under the management of Jalpaiguri Municipality, enabling citizens to directly access and avail themselves of various government services and benefits.

Under the visionary leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee and under the flagship Pathashree scheme, Jalpaiguri Municipality has taken another significant step towards strengthening urban infrastructure.
The Hon’ble Chairman of Jalpaiguri Municipality, along with respected Councillors and senior municipal officials, formally inaugurated multiple road development projects across all wards of Jalpaiguri Municipality.
As part of this initiative, road construction and upgradation works covering nearly 21 kilometres will be undertaken within the municipal area at an estimated cost of ₹14.33 crore. All works are planned to be completed before the forthcoming Bidhansabha elections, strictly adhering to the stipulated timeline.
This initiative reflects the Municipality’s firm commitment to planned urban development, improved connectivity, and enhanced civic amenities, ensuring better infrastructure and an improved quality of life for the people of Jalpaiguri.

The Board Meeting of Jalpaiguri Municipality was successfully concluded. During the meeting, it was outlined that in the current financial year, development works worth approximately ₹40 crore will be undertaken across the town.
Additionally, under the AMRUT Project, the supply of drinking water to the residents of Jalpaiguri will commence within this month. Jalpaiguri Municipality remains firmly committed to the planned development, improved civic services, and overall well-being of the town and its citizens.

Just as a river enhances the identity and aesthetics of a city, the Karala River is an integral part of Jalpaiguri’s heritage.

In a step towards maintaining cleanliness and preventing river pollution, the Jalpaiguri Municipality has installed protective nets on the Dinbazar Bridge to stop the disposal of waste into the river. Similar preventive measures will be implemented on all major bridges across the city in a phased manner.

The Karala River is the lifeline of Jalpaiguri. Collective responsibility and public cooperation are essential to keep it clean, sustainable, and vibrant for the future.

Jalpaiguri Municipality conveys its sincere appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the Urban Planning, Governance, Resource Mobilization, and Technology interactive session held at IIT Kharagpur – Rajarhat Campus on 09/01/2026.
The programme provided a valuable platform for constructive discussions on sustainable urban development, effective governance frameworks, and technology-driven solutions relevant to municipal administration.
The session was attended by the Chairman, Jalpaiguri Municipality, along with the Office Superintendent, Jalpaiguri Municipality, reflecting the Municipality’s commitment to academic engagement and knowledge-driven governance.
