Is the Future of Education Being Sold Out?

It is a dark day for academia when Universities turn a blind eye to the self-styled corrupt practices of private college managements. We are witnessing a systemic betrayal where profit-hungry boards are bypassing UGC-mandated qualifications to appoint ineligible Principals.

Why is this happening?
To suit their own ends. Management-favoured puppets are installed not for their academic merit or leadership, but to facilitate "compromised" administration.

As a result, Qualified, dedicated educators are forced to work under leadership that lacks the vision or legal standing to protect their welfare. The quality of education plummets. Students suffer. Salaries are not paid on time. Retiral dues get delayed. When a Principal is ineligible, the very validity of degrees and institutional accreditation is put at risk.

Every time a University ignores these violations, it trades its prestige, credibility, and reputation for administrative convenience. Education is not a business; it is a sacred trust. When we allow ineligible persons to take the helm, we sink the ship for an entire generation.

Is there any accountability for University officials who look the other way ? Are Universities compromising Academic Excellence for Administrative silence ? ā€¼ļø

Isn’t it a sad state of affairs for the development and future of any State where teachers are exploited during service and deprived or forced to fight after retirement!!!?

A Society which disrespects its teachers cannot hope to have a well taught and educated future ✨

To Fight court Cases for one’s own money - the harsh reality, and yet the dignity in the fight

In August 2022, 66-year-old lawyer Tungnath Chaturvedi won a 22-year legal battle against Indian Railways for overcharging him ₹20 in 1999. The consumer court ordered a refund of the amount with 12% annual interest, plus ₹15,000 compensation for mental agony, concluding over 100 hearings.

In 1999, Chaturvedi was charged ₹90 for two tickets from Mathura to Moradabad that should have cost ₹70. He filed a case against the North Eastern Railway in a consumer forum, enduring over 100 hearings across 22 years.

In 2022 The court ordered the railway to refund the ₹20 with 12% interest per annum from 1999 to 2022, along with ₹15,000 compensation.

Tungnath said, ā€œThe case was not about the money, but about fighting corruption and seeking justice.ā€

Hats off to the teachers who have to fight cases for their retrial dues after 60 and yet don’t give up.

Who should be a College Principal !?

Someone like Shri. Atul Krishna Ghosh, the longest-serving principal in the early history of Mohindra College, Patiala

As a Professor of English and Principal, Shri Ghosh was pivotal in the foundational development of Mohindra College.
He was a distinguished scholar appointed from the Indian Education Service.
He was known for his integrity and, despite immense pressure to make way for a British successor, his contributions to the academic structure remained unparalleled.

After his tenure at Patiala, he worked closely with national leaders like Motilal Nehru and Madan Mohan Malaviya, silently contributing to India's freedom movement.

His legacy is one of academic excellence, administrative brilliance, and quiet patriotism.

The problem is that Chairpersons and Principals today consider the college as their private property. They function not as leaders taking the college to greater heights while looking after the best interests of students and teachers, rather they behave as owners/traders looking to profit by cheap cost cutting techniques.

Who should be appointed as Principals and Chairpersons !?

1. Those who try their best to solve the problems of every teacher and student personally

2. The ones who work wholeheartedly for the overall development of students and teachers,

3. Those who really love teaching, go to their subject classes and never stop teaching.

4. If a student is continuously absent in classrooms, they reach out to him/her personally and encourage them to come to classrooms,

5. Those who make sure there are enough funds to keep the teachers well paid, instead of filing and fighting court cases against own teachers

6. Whom teachers and students can tell all their problems without hesitation,

7. The ones who are truly present among students and teachers in every happiness and sorrow, not just preaching happiness with fake smiles,

8. Those who transparently channel funds to ensure progress of the institution, rather than hiding and twisting facts from them

9. Someone students and teachers see as their guardians not their tormentors

10. To meet whom any student or teacher is never required to take an appointment. Nor is any teacher or student belittled by them for whatever reason.

Just some basic note worthy requirements. No doubt it is not easy to find good College managements and Principals today.

Let’s be real—sometimes the hardest part of the day isn't teaching; it's surviving! Surviving in an acrimonious negative environment. What is the one thing that has saved your sanity this week?

To the teacher who stayed late, to the one who listened to a student's long story, and to the one who redesigned their lesson at 10 PM—we see you.

You are the heart of education. Take a moment to recognize your own hard work. Respect yourself. Do not compromise your own education, knowledge and dignity. You deserve it.

Dr. Sandeep Singh from Punjab holds a PhD in Law and four Master’s degrees in subjects ranging from Journalism to Political Science.
1He dedicated over a decade of his life as a contractual professor at Punjabi University, Patiala, teaching future lawyers and scholars.

Faced with irregular pay and financial instability, Dr. Singh made a bold decision. To support his family with dignity, he stepped away from the classroom and onto the streets of Amritsar to sell vegetables.

He proudly displays his qualification on his vegetable cart - PHD SABZI WALLAH - He often says he follows the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji—to work hard and never beg.
Even after a long day of selling vegetables, he returns home to study for his next goal. His ultimate dream? To save enough to open his own tuition centre and continue his passion for teaching.

Dr. Sandeep Singh’s story isn’t just about the struggles of the education system; it’s about the Sikh spirit of Chardi Kala (eternal optimism). He reminds us that your degrees don't just get you a job—they give you the mental strength to face any storm with your head held high.

Salute to this professor who is teaching us all a lesson in humility, struggle and resilience!

The harm to the well being of a community is often abetted by some members of the community themselves. They think they understand the circumstances better, they think they will have a better solution at least for themselves, even if at the cost of their colleagues. The administrators know these weaklings and use them for their mean ends against their own fraternity.

The benefits for which they sell their souls are lesser classes, duty leaves for personal chores or for their side hustles, and a sense of being a better foot stool for the administrator.

The funniest fact is at the end they also do not get their dues and rights like the rest of the community!

Educational institutions are known because of the teachers who teach there.
Everyone who remembers his own education remembers the teachers who taught them, not the administration and their techniques.

The teacher is the heart of the educational system. It’s the teacher that makes the difference, not the classroom.
