Coordination Meeting Held for 9th Edition State Level HDMT 2026 at Aalo, West Siang

The Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs, Sh. Abu Tayeng, IAS, chaired a coordination meeting today to review preparations for the conduct of the 9th State HDMT 2026, scheduled to be held at Aalo, West Siang, from 16 May 2026 onwards.
The meeting was attended by the Director of Sports, the Deputy Commissioner ,Superintendent of Police , Deputy Director Sports, District Sports Officer (HQ), Heads of various Departments, and executive members of sports associations.

In his address, the Ld. Secretary urged all stakeholders to extend full cooperation and make concerted efforts to ensure the successful conduct of the event. He highlighted that the people of West Siang are well known for their warm hospitality and strong sporting culture, expressing confidence that the district will host the event with excellence.

Approximately 1,500 athletes, along with technical and team officials, are expected to participate in football & volleyball U-16 Boys & Girls

The events will be conducted across various venues in Aalo township from the second week of next month.
The meeting concluded with detailed discussions on logistics, accommodation, security, and venue management to ensure smooth and successful organisation of the competition.

Flag-Off Ceremony for State Athletes

A flag-off ceremony was held today at the Banquet Hall in the presence of Abu Tayeng, IAS, Secretary (S&YA), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The ceremony marked the departure of the state contingent comprising 77 athletes, 7 coaches, and one Chief de Mission (CDM) who will be participating in the 1st Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, scheduled to be held in Chattisgarh from 25th March to 6th April 2026 The athletes will compete across disciplines including athletics, archery, football, weightlifting, and wrestling.

Addressing the gathering, the Secretary highlighted the significance of the CM ACES initiative and encouraged athletes by citing the recent achievements of para athletes Biri Takar and Tingong Wangpan. He also spoke about key state initiatives such as Mission Olympic and the governmentโ€™s envisioned annual state games, aimed at strengthening the sporting ecosystem.

Referring to the last National Games, he noted the commendable performance of the state contingent, which secured 13 medals from a team of 39 athletes. He further assured that the government would extend all possible support for the development of sports and athletes in the state.

While conveying his best wishes, the Chief Guest emphasized the importance of discipline and conduct, stating that athletes represent the face of the state and must uphold its dignity at all times.

Lakhpa Tsering, a prominent veteran rally racer of India, also addressed the gathering and motivated the athletes with encouraging words.

The event was attended by Ramesh Lingi, Director of Youth Affairs; Ms. Mala Lingi, Deputy Director of Sports; Likha Vidha, Principal, SLSA; along with a large number of officers and officials of the Department of Sports and Department of Youth Affairs

Congratulations to the Para Athletes of Arunachal Pradesh! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿธ
Biri Takar (Arunachal Pradesh) and Harsh*t Choudhary (Madhya Pradesh) have emerged as the new National Champions in the Menโ€™s Doubles SL3โ€“SU5 category, defeating Paralympic Gold Medalist Nitesh Kumar and Ruthick Raghupathi in the grand final of the 7th Senior National Para Badminton Championship 2026. ๐Ÿ†
Adding to the pride, Bamang Rade and Gokia Gobin also clinched Gold in the Menโ€™s Doubles SH6 (Short Stature) category. ๐Ÿฅ‡
The championship is being held from 6โ€“10 March 2026 at the Heartfulness Gopichand Badminton Academy in Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad, with nearly 700 para-athletes from across the country participating, including 200 wheelchair players.

Notably, Biri Takar is among the athletes supported under the CM ACES Scheme, Government of Arunachal Pradesh highlighting the impact of the stateโ€™s commitment to nurturing sporting talent. He is presently receiving advanced training at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad.
