Er. Toko Onuj, CMD, HPDCAPL appointed as Member of Governing Council, NPTI by the Ministry of Power,GoI.
ITANAGAR, JULY 22 : The Ministry of Power, Government of India, has appointed Er. Toko Onuj, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Ltd. (HPDCAPL), as a Member of the Governing Council of National Power Training Institute (NPTI) for a tenure of 3 (three) years, effective from July 1, 2025.
Er. Onuj has been appointed as a representative from the power sector of Northeast India, bringing regional expertise and perspective to the apex training body under the Ministry of Power.
The Governing Council of NPTI is a prestigious body chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India. It comprises 5 (five) representatives from various State Electricity Boards/Departments (DEBs) and 5 (five) eminent individuals from diverse fields such as Technical Education, Management, Power Equipment Manufacturing, Power Development, Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Energy Conservation, and Rural Electrification. These distinguished members are selected on a rotational basis to guide and advise the institute on the matters of strategic importance and sectoral development.
The National Power Training Institute (NPTI) is an ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 certified autonomous organization under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, headquartered in Faridabad, Haryana. As the national apex body for power sector training and human resource development, NPTI has over five decades of legacy and has trained more than 4.7 lakh power professionals. The NPTI is recognized as the world’s leading integrated power training institute. NPTI operates through 11 institutes across India, offering specialized training in Thermal, Hydro, Renewable Energy, Transmission & Distribution, and Regulatory Affairs. The institute also offers a unique MBA program in Power Management, equipping future leaders with the managerial and technical skills required for the evolving energy sector. Its use of Generation Simulators has significantly improved plant efficiency and power availability across the nation.
NPTI conducts programs under the ITEC (Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation) initiative, a flagship program of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India. NPTI has over 160 partner countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and the Pacific. NPTI also offers customized capacity-building programs for major organizations like CEA, GRID-India, NHPC, and others, and has trained professionals from over 30 countries, cementing India’s global leadership in power sector training.
The inclusion of Er. Toko Onuj in the Governing Council reflects recognition of his technical acumen, visionary leadership, and dedication to the advancement of the power sector, especially in the North Eastern Region. His appointment is expected to bring valuable insights and regional perspectives to the strategic direction of NPTI’s mission.
