"The Quit India Movement, launched on 8 August 1942 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, was a major movement in India’s struggle for independence from British rule. Gandhi gave the powerful call of “Do or Die”, urging Indians to fight peacefully but firmly for freedom. After the arrest of Gandhi and other Congress leaders on 9 August, people across the country came forward through protests, strikes, demonstrations and acts of civil disobedience. Students, farmers, workers and women actively participated in the movement. Although the British government responded with arrests and strict repression, the movement showed the strong determination and unity of Indians and became a significant turning point in the freedom struggle, ultimately contributing to India’s independence in 1947."
