The Inaugural Function of National Sports Day 2026 was organized with great enthusiasm at BRIC-IBSD, Imphal. The programme commenced with a floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey icon of India, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the nation’s sporting heritage.

The event was graced by Smt. Sanggai Ibemhal, Hockey Coach, Sports Authority of India (SAI), North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC), Imphal, as the Chief Guest.

The function was presided over by Dr. Nanaocha Sharma, Director (Additional Charge), BRIC-IBSD, who highlighted the significance of sports in promoting physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and overall well-being. In her address, the Chief Guest emphasized the role of sports in character building and youth development. The celebration reflected the spirit of the national slogan “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat” and encouraged participants to actively engage in sports and physical activities for holistic development.

The BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (BRIC-IBSD), Imphal, in collaboration with Vijnana Bharati, organized a program on “Science for Viksit Bharat” here today to highlight the role of science, technology, and innovation in realizing the national vision of a Viksit Bharat. The event brought together scientists, researchers, students, and academicians.

Shri Sreeprasad M.K., Kshetriya Sangathan Mantri, Vijnana Bharati, attended as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included Shri Abhijit Goswami, State Coordinator (North East), Vibhavani India; Shri Rajeeb Chandra Sharma, Zonal Coordinator, VVM; and Dr. H. Nanaocha Sharma, Director (Additional Charge), BRIC-IBSD, Imphal. The occasion also featured felicitation of the National Camp 2025-26 VVM awardee and release of the VVM 2026-27 brochure.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Ch. Brajakishor Singh, Scientist-E, BRIC-IBSD, Imphal, and State President, Vibhavani India, called for cultivating a scientific temper among youth and encouraging research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Speakers highlighted the rich biodiversity and traditional knowledge systems of the North Eastern Region as valuable resources for bioresource-based innovation, and called for greater collaboration among scientific institutions, academia, and society to advance the goal of a developed, self-reliant India by 2047.
