Manipur: Fresh Clashes in Kamjong Leave Four Dead, Around 10 Houses Burnt
Imphal, October 10, 2026: Fresh violence in the Chassad area of Manipur’s Kamjong district, near the Indo-Myanmar border, has reportedly claimed at least four lives, while around 10 houses belonging to the two conflicting communities were burnt during the clashes.
According to reports, three of the deceased were suspected cadres of the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B). A civilian woman was also reportedly injured in the gunfight, while three other individuals sustained injuries. The injured were taken to Kamjong District Hospital for medical treatment.
The violence reportedly escalated after several houses were set on fire during the daytime, followed by a gunfight at night. The situation remained tense, with additional reports of a gun attack in Ningchou, a Tangkhul Naga village near the international border.
In a separate development, personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), deployed in the area, reportedly detained several youths during a security check. The detention triggered a protest by women from the Kuki community in Chassad.
The situation reportedly turned tense during a standoff between the protesters and security personnel. A woman, identified as Domkhonei Touthang, was reportedly injured after security forces opened fire while attempting to control the situation. She was later reported to have succumbed to her injuries.
Additional security forces have been deployed to the area to monitor the situation and prevent further violence.
