You have seen the change but may not have known its name. A recent survey indicates that a significant portion of people are either unaware of Imphal Smart City Limited (ISCL) or have only limited understanding of its role.
From improved road infrastructure to cleaner surroundings and enhanced public spaces, these developments are part of ISCL’s ongoing efforts to improve everyday life across Imphal.
While these changes may not always be immediately recognized, they are steadily contributing to a more efficient and liveable city. Increasing awareness is the first step towards recognizing and engaging with this transformation.

World Asthma Day 2026, led by Global Initiative for Asthma, highlights the urgent theme: “Access to anti-inflammatory inhalers for everyone with asthma.” The focus this year is on ensuring that people everywhere regardless of income or location, can access life-saving inhaled medications, especially corticosteroids that prevent severe attacks. Despite advances in treatment, many still lack basic care, making asthma a preventable cause of suffering and death. This day serves as a reminder to strengthen healthcare systems, improve affordability, and prioritize equitable access so that no one is left behind in asthma care.

From Manipur’s indigenous Chak Hao (Black Rice) comes Chak Hao Tan, a simple, pan-cooked favourite that fits right into everyday life. It is a simple pancake or roti, prepared by grinding the black rice and combining it with flour. The batter is spread onto a lightly greased pan and cooked on both sides until done. A small amount of sugar is often added for a gentle sweetness. The dish has a distinct aroma of chak hao and a mild nutty flavour. Easy to prepare at home, Chak Hao Tan is also widely available in markets and local shops across Imphal.

The Pena, one of the oldest traditional Meitei musical instruments, was once an integral part of royal life in Kangleipak, performed during grand gatherings and ceremonial occasions. It remains closely tied to the cultural and spiritual life of Manipur, especially during festivals like Lai Haraoba, where its music accompanies rituals and traditional storytelling. Today, the timeless sound of the Pena has also found its place in modern celebrations, and is increasingly played during weddings, carrying its tradition into today’s world.
