Congratulations to the young athletes of Manipur for their outstanding performance at the 28th Sub-Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship 2026 held in Ranchi.

Manipur has once again made the nation proud by emerging as the dominant force of the tournament, securing an impressive tally of five gold medals and one bronze, including top honours in both boys’ and girls’ team and quad events, reflecting exceptional talent, discipline, and teamwork.

The championship concluded on March 26, 2026, marking yet another milestone in the rising journey of Manipur’s young athletes on the national stage.

The year 2026 began on a proud and inspiring note with Manipur hosting the 69th National School Games Championships 2025–26 from 14th January to 3rd February 2026, featuring competitions in Archery (U-19 Boys & Girls), Wushu (U-19 Boys & Girls), Judo (U-17 Boys & Girls), Football (U-19 Girls), and Fencing (U-19 Boys & Girls).

Across three exciting phases, 2500+ young athletes and officials from every corner of the country displayed exceptional talent, discipline, and sportsmanship, turning the Championships into a true celebration of youth, unity, and sporting excellence.

The successful hosting of this prestigious national event reaffirms Manipur’s stature as a powerhouse of sports in India. Events of this magnitude not only strengthen our organisational capacity but also provide invaluable opportunities to enhance sporting infrastructure and further groom our local talent to compete at the highest levels.

With this grand beginning to the year, Manipur continues its journey toward building a stronger sporting ecosystem and nurturing the champions of tomorrow.

Highlights from the One-Day Self Defence Training Programme for Women

The One-Day Self Defence Training Programme, organised by Homeland Security in collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of Manipur, was successfully conducted at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium on 21st December 2025.

Women from various age groups participated with great enthusiasm, taking part in practical self-defence sessions, situational awareness exercises and confidence-enhancing activities. The programme underscored a shared resolve to promote personal safety, resilience and empowerment of women.

The Department extends sincere appreciation to the trainers, participants and support teams for their valuable contributions in making the initiative effective.

The 1st Edition of the Red Shield Rising Star Hockey Tournament 2025 has successfully concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony, marking a significant milestone in Manipur’s sporting journey.

A landmark initiative jointly organised by the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of Manipur and the Indian Army – 57 Mountain Division (Red Shield Division), the tournament celebrated partnership, passion and the rising spirit of hockey in Manipur—reviving a proud legacy while inspiring the next generation of champions.

The closing ceremony showcased a beautiful blend of competitive hockey and rich cultural performances, followed by the final match and prize distribution, honouring teams, officials, performers and all contributors who made the inaugural edition a grand success.

As the curtain falls on the first chapter, the Red Shield Rising Star Hockey Tournament sets a strong foundation for nurturing young talent and strengthening the hockey ecosystem in the state.
