Survey and acquisition of rare medical manuscripts and rare books on Ayush systems of medicine, Modern medicine etc., in different languages. Transcription, transliteration, translation, and publication of medical works based on manuscripts, rare books, and unpublished works related to

Ayush systems and to bring out critical editions in print & electronic form. Collection of medical information from other sources like ancient non-medical literature – Vedas, Puranas etc., Archaeological & Epigraphical sources, accounts of foreign travellers in India. Study of historical development and evolution of concepts of diseases, drugs and other aspects of Ayush Systems. Preparation of biographies of physicians/authors, and commentators of classical medical literature of different periods. Projects for writing History of Medicine Area wise, Period wise, and Theme wise. Collection, editing, and publication of News & Notes and historical materials, including the publication of the Bulletin of the Institute & Monographs. Organization of exhibitions on some specific occasions like seminars, celebrations, etc., to exhibit the development of medicine in India and for dissemination of Indian Medical systems. Referral services and guidance to research scholars. Preparation of bibliographies of journals/articles on the History of Medicine. Collection of oral history i.e., audio recording and the historical background and other details like palm-leaf and paper manuscripts, old books, certificates of grants, awards, etc., from hereditary physicians and traditional medical practitioners in and around Hyderabad city. Development and maintenance of Medico-historical Library. Development and maintenance of Medico-historical Museum. Design and development of IT applications to document and preserve Ayush medical heritage. Maintaining CCRAS-RMIS (Research Management Information System) – a continuous service since March 2014.

🌿 योग और आयुर्वेद का अनूठा संगम: 'हरित योग एवं जन-संपर्क' 🌿
आज सुबह राष्ट्रीय भारतीय चिकित्सा संपदा संस्थान (NIIMH), हैदराबाद द्वारा आगामी '12वें अंतरराष्ट्रीय योग दिवस' के पावन अवसर पर एक विशेष स्वास्थ्य जागरूकता और जन-संपर्क अभियान का सफल आयोजन किया गया!
संस्थान के सहायक निदेशक (प्रभारी) डॉ. जी. पी. प्रसाद जी के कुशल मार्गदर्शन में यह कार्यक्रम आचार्य एन.जी. रंगा कृषि विश्वविद्यालय कॉलोनी स्थित सार्वजनिक पार्क में स्थानीय योग एसोसिएशन के समन्वय से संपन्न हुआ।
✨ मुख्य आकर्षण: 🧘‍♂️ सामूहिक योगाभ्यास: प्रातः 6:00 बजे संस्थान की विशेषज्ञ टीम ने स्थानीय योगाभ्यासियों के साथ मिलकर योग सत्र में भाग लिया। 🌱 निःशुल्क वनौषधि वितरण: पर्यावरण और स्वास्थ्य को बढ़ावा देने के लिए उपस्थित नागरिकों को औषधीय पौधों (saplings) का मुफ्त वितरण किया गया। 💬 विशेषज्ञ संवाद: संस्थान के चिकित्सा विशेषज्ञों ने स्थानीय निवासियों व महिलाओं को संतुलित दिनचर्या, उचित खान-पान और समग्र स्वास्थ्य के लिए आयुर्वेद व योग के महत्व को समझाया।
इस अभियान को सफल बनाने में अनुसंधान अधिकारी (आयुर्वेद) डॉ. संतोष माने, ग्रंथालय एवं सूचना सहायक श्री के. श्रीनिवास राव और MUHS, नासिक के समर इंटर्नशिप प्रोग्राम के ऊर्जावान छात्रों (संतोष, भरत, संचित और प्रसाद) ने सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई।
इस अनूठे 'हरित योग' कार्यक्रम की स्थानीय निवासियों और योग एसोसिएशन के प्रशिक्षक श्री आंध्रा रेड्डी सहित सभी वरिष्ठ सदस्यों —श्री सुरेंद्र रेड्डी, श्री जनार्दन रेड्डी, श्री माणिक रेड्डी, श्री वेंकटराम रेड्डी और श्री उत्तम तुलजापुरकर आदि द्वारा भूरि-भूरि प्रशंसा की गई।
आइए, हम सब मिलकर इस योग दिवस पर आयुर्वेद और योग को अपने जीवन का हिस्सा बनाएं और इसे एक राष्ट्रव्यापी जन-आंदोलन रूप दें! 🗺️

🧘‍♂️ Promoting Wellness & Yoga in the Community! 🌿
The National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), Hyderabad, commenced its activities for the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY 2026) with a vibrant Public Outreach and Awareness programme held this morning.
Under the inspiring guidance and leadership of our Assistant Director (In-charge), Dr. G.P. Prasad, the NIIMH expert team visited the public park at Revenue Board Colony at 6:30 AM to connect directly with local citizens, morning walkers, and yoga practitioners.
Key Highlights of the Drive: ✨ Mass Movement: Addressed the local community, making a heartfelt appeal to actively participate in the upcoming 12th IDY celebrations and embrace yoga as a daily habit. 🌿 Ayurveda meets Yoga: Interacted with a local women's yoga group to share vital insights on Ayurveda principles, daily health routines (Dinacharya), seasonal health regimes (Ritucharya), and holistic wellness. 🎓 Youth Engagement: Our energetic team of interns from the Summer Internship Programme—conducted by MUHS, Nashik at NIIMH—actively participated under the supervision of Dr. Santosh Mane (Research Officer, Ayurveda). Huge appreciation to interns Shraddha, Sakshi, Pragya, Santosh, Bharat, Sanchit, and Prasad for sharing the benefits of yoga with the public!

राष्ट्रीय भारतीय चिकित्सा संपदा संस्थान (NIIMH), हैदराबाद द्वारा आज 'विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस 2026' के अवसर पर पर्यावरण संरक्षण और पर्यावरण-अनुकूल जीवन शैली के प्रति जन-जागरूकता बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से एक भव्य वॉकथॉन (जागरूकता मार्च) का सफलतापूर्वक आयोजन किया गया। यह संपूर्ण आयोजन संस्थान के सहायक निदेशक (प्रभारी) डॉ. जी. पी. प्रसाद के कुशल मार्गदर्शन और नेतृत्व में संपन्न हुआ।
वॉकथॉन की शुरुआत आज शाम 4:30 बजे संस्थान परिसर के मुख्य द्वार से हुई। इस मार्च में संस्थान के सभी अधिकारियों, वैज्ञानिकों, शोधकर्ताओं और कर्मचारियों ने अत्यंत उत्साह के साथ भाग लिया। हाथों में पर्यावरण संरक्षण, स्थिरता और हरित भविष्य के संदेश वाले बैनर और तख्तियां लिए एवं उद्घोष करते हुए एनआईआईएमएच (NIIMH) के दल ने आसपास के विभिन्न रिहायशी इलाकों और कॉलोनियों का भ्रमण किया।
वॉकथॉन के माध्यम से टीम ने पर्यावरण संरक्षण के साथ-साथ आगामी अंतरराष्ट्रीय योग दिवस एवं टीबी मुक्त भारत अभियान में भी बढ़-चढ़कर भागीदारी दर्ज करने की अपील की। इस दौरान संस्थान के दल ने स्थानीय निवासियों से बातचीत कर उन्हें पेड़ लगाने, प्लास्टिक का उपयोग न करने, प्रकृति के साथ तालमेल बिठाकर रहने तथा नियमित योगाभ्यास करने के लिए प्रेरित किया।
इस अवसर पर संस्थान के अधिकारियों ने संदेश देते हुए कहा कि पृथ्वी और पर्यावरण का स्वास्थ्य सीधे तौर पर मानव स्वास्थ्य से जुड़ा हुआ है। प्राचीन भारतीय चिकित्सा पद्धतियों में भी प्रकृति और मानव के इसी अटूट संबंध को रेखांकित किया गया है। आज के समय में पर्यावरण की रक्षा करना हम सभी का परम कर्तव्य है।
इस जागरूकता अभियान में संस्थान के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों एवं वैज्ञानिकों— डॉ. गोविंद रेड्डी, डॉ. वी. श्रीदेवी, डॉ. साकेत राम, डॉ. अशफाक अहमद, डॉ. संतोष माने, एवं डॉ. बिस्व रंजन दास सहित सभी स्टाफ ने अपनी सक्रिय सहभागिता दर्ज करायी।
कार्यक्रम के अंत में, इस सराहनीय और जन-हितैषी पहल को सफल बनाने के लिए संस्थान के पुस्तकालय एवं सूचना सहायक श्री के. श्रीनिवास राव द्वारा सभी प्रतिभागियों, अधिकारियों और कर्मचारियों के प्रति धन्यवाद एवं आभार व्यक्त किया गया।
National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH) Organises Walkathon on 'World Environment Day 2026' in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, 5th June 2026:
To mark World Environment Day 2026, the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), Hyderabad, successfully organised a grand awareness walkathon today. The event aimed to promote environmental conservation and encourage eco-friendly lifestyles among the public. The entire drive was conducted under the able guidance and leadership of Dr G.P. Prasad, Assistant Director (In-charge).
The walkathon commenced at 4:30 PM today from the institute's main gate. Officers, scientists, researchers, and staff members participated in the march with great enthusiasm. Carrying banners and placards with messages on environmental protection, sustainability, and a greener future, the NIIMH team marched through various nearby residential areas and colonies.
Alongside environmental protection, the team actively raised awareness and urged the public to support the upcoming International Day of Yoga and the TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (TB-Free India Campaign). During the drive, the staff interacted with local residents, encouraging them to plant trees, avoid using plastic, live in harmony with nature, and practise yoga regularly.
Speaking on the occasion, the institute officials highlighted that the health of our planet and the environment is directly linked to human well-being. They noted that ancient Indian medical systems have always emphasised this deep connection between human health and nature, and that protecting the environment is a vital duty for everyone today.
Senior officers and scientists of the institute—including Dr Govind Reddy, Dr V. Sridevi, Dr Saketh Ram, Dr Ashfaq Ahmed, Dr Santosh Mane, and Dr Biswo Ranjan Das—along with the entire staff, actively participated in this awareness drive.
At the conclusion of the event, Mr K. Srinivas Rao, Library and Information Assistant, expressed his gratitude and thanked all the participants, officers, and staff members for making this community initiative a grand success.
