Productive discussions were held between BRIC-CDFD and LVPEI to foster collaboration in the field of ocular genetics, with a shared vision to bridge the gap between clinicians and biologists. Key areas of focus included training and capacity building for clinicians, development of allele and diagnostic panels, strengthening genetic counselling services, and providing access to advanced facilities for startups and innovators.

The discussions also explored opportunities to jointly conduct hackathons, encourage multidisciplinary innovation, and create platforms for collective ideation to accelerate research, diagnostics, and translational solutions in ocular genetics.

Fostering scientific learning through institutional engagement and collaboration.

On 2 June 2026, BRIC-CDFD hosted a group of newly recruited Scientists (B & C) of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) as part of their Field Training Programme, facilitated by ICMR–National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN), Hyderabad.

The visit provided participants with an opportunity to explore CDFD's advanced research infrastructure, state-of-the-art core facilities, and ongoing research initiatives in genomics, molecular biology, and translational biomedical sciences. Such interactions play a vital role in promoting interdisciplinary learning and strengthening India's research ecosystem.

We thank ICMR and ICMR-NIN for this valuable engagement and look forward to continued collaborations in advancing scientific excellence and public health research.

Congratulations to Mr. Brahmaji Sontyana on the successful defense of his PhD thesis under the guidance of Dr. Sangita Mukhopadhyay, Laboratory of Molecular Biology Group.

His research uncovers novel insights into Mycobacterium tuberculosis immune evasion mechanisms and highlights innovative therapeutic strategies targeting the TLR2–PPE18 interaction to strengthen host anti-TB immunity.

Algal Bloom Information Service (ABIS), developed by incoismoes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences Government of India (MoES), provides near real-time monitoring of algal blooms in the Indian seas.

Using advanced satellite data, ABIS detects harmful algal blooms, tracks chlorophyll levels, sea surface temperature, and bloom spread, while issuing WATCH and WARNING alerts for affected regions.

The service supports fisherfolk, fishery managers, and researchers in protecting fisheries, marine ecosystems, and coastal water quality across India’s seas.
