URGENT CALL FOR INCLUSIVE REFORMS IN TISS HYDERABAD
The Progressive Students’ Forum, TISS Hyderabad Unit Committee, expresses deep concern over the worsening situation on campus and the administration’s continued neglect of urgent student issues. Over the past months, students have raised key concerns around accommodation, financial aid, academic schedules, and the absence of democratic representation. However, the administration’s repeated failure to act with transparency, fairness, or accountability has only deepened the crisis. What we are witnessing is not just inefficiency, but a consistent erosion of the values that this institute claims to stand for.
The most pressing issue at present is the question of student accommodation. Despite multiple reminders, the first formal information about college-facilitated accommodation was only shared on July 15, just days before classes are set to begin. The option offered costs ₹12,200 per month and requires two months’ advance payment. While this includes food, it does not cover transportation. This means students must arrange nearly ₹36,000 up front, on top of their semester fees, while also making daily travel arrangements. For many, especially those from marginalised and rural backgrounds, this demand is financially unmanageable. In contrast, the Mumbai campus offers hostel and mess facilities at ₹38,000 per semester. This glaring disparity raises serious questions about equal treatment and access across campuses.
