💧 Ensuring Safe Drinking Water for Flood-Affected Communities

The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department continued its flood relief efforts by distributing safe drinking water pouches, distribution of IEC leaflet to affected families in relief camps under Hojai District.

Distribution was carried out at Hindublock Gram Panchayat Office, Dighaljaroni LP School, Abdul Jalil Memorial Hall Relief Distribution Centre, Dighaljar FV Road, and Burigaon Relief Camp etc, ensuring access to safe drinking water for flood-affected residents.

The department remains committed to supporting relief operations and safeguarding public health during this challenging time.

Swajal Baithak (Phase-III) is strengthening community participation and local ownership under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and SBM-G across the Gaon Panchayats of Hojai District.

So far, 8 no. of Swajal Baithaks have been conducted, creating awareness on JJM objectives, sustainability of PWSS and SBM-G assets, and the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026. The sessions also emphasized on source sustainability, operation & maintenance of water supply schemes, waste segregation at source, user fee collection, and community responsibility for keeping villages clean, healthy, and sustainable.

Together, communities are building cleaner villages and ensuring sustainable water and sanitation services for all.

A field visit was conducted by the UNICEF WASH Coordinator to Hojai District to review the implementation and functionality of JJM and SBM-G assets. Accompanied by the Assistant Executive Engineer, Section Officer, District Coordinators and Technical Officer, the team visited various infrastructure facilities including PWSS, CCP, and CMSC units. During the visit, interactions were held with beneficiaries, WUC members, and PRI representatives to assess community participation and the overall effectiveness of the assets.
The visit concluded with a brief review meeting at the CEO, P&RD Office. Addressing the officials, the Coordinator highlighted the importance of timely intervention and active involvement of PRI members to ensure the long-term sustainability and proper functionality of the assets.

A water user committee meeting conducted at Kandulimari PWSS of Jugijan Block under Hojai District with the wuc members, beneficiaries where regular water tariff collection, O & M of PWSS, importance of safe drinking water and the overall Sustainability of the pwss was discussed. Beneficiaries and wuc members ensured their involvement for the overall functionality of the scheme. Section Officers, District Coordinator, field staff, Jal Mitra were present in the meeting.

DWSM meeting for Hojai district was held today, 08/05/2026. Emphasis was given on maintenance of JJM assets and ex*****on and monitoring of the SBM-G assets in the district, to meet the actual purpose of the schemes. Resolution was taken to involve BDOs and PRIs in managing the Waste collection facilities, EODT, CMSCs, electric vehicles and sensitizing the SHGs/VOs about the vermi composit pits in generating revenue.
The meeting was chaired by ADC(PHE) in presence of BDO'S, representatives from APDCL, and P & RD department. Executive Engineer, AEE's. AEE(TC), SO, District Coordinators .
