A day well spent with our beloved students of M.Sc. Applied Statistics & Analytics (Batches 2025–26 and 2024–25) while organizing Freshers’ Statistica 2026. Here are a few glimpses of the wonderful performances by our students along with our respected faculty members.

A soulful flute performance by Dr. Sushovon Jana and a melodious vocal presentation by Prof. P. N. Dutta, Ms. Anwesha Sengupta (Asst. Prof.), Mr. Parthiv Routh (Student) and Ms. Arunita Sarkar (Student), Ms. Taranum Parvin (Student) made the occasion even more memorable. A beautiful Shayari recital by Ms. Taranum Parvin (Student) added warmth and elegance to the celebration.

Happy to share that our departmental faculty member Mrs. Anwesha Sengupta, has published an article ”STNN-based weighted regression models for the prediction of urban land surface temperature-a study of spatiotemporal association”, in Theoretical and Applied Climatology, Springer (SCIE, Scopus).

The present study aims to develop three STNN (Spatiotemporal Neural Network)-based weighted regression models (viz., STNNWR-v1, STNNWR-v2, and STNNWR-v3) to predict urban land surface temperature (LST) of Delhi in association with other climatic & LULC factors. Attention is paid to lowering the model complexity by reducing the number of parameters. The performance of STNNWR-v3 is significantly better in terms of evolution metrics and computation time when compared with baselines. The optimized variant (STNNWR-v3) achieves a balance between model simplicity and predictive accuracy for utilizing a fewer number of model parameters. This reduced parameterization enhances both computational efficiency and the transparency of the model’s decision process as well.

The article is available online.
