Haridwar* : A two-day workshop for school children to create awareness about skill education and prepare them for the world of work was held at the PM Shri Government girls' inter college Jwalapur Haridwar . The workshop is part of PARAKH NCERT and PHDCCI’s उद्यम संसार World of Work (WoW) campaign which aims to cover all the 36 States and UTs in the country in two phases.
The first phase of the campaign covers 18 states / Union territories. These include Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Pondicherry, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. The workshop in Puri was the sixth in the series and it was conducted by resource persons from PARAKH NCERT.
Giving an overview of the campaign, Prof Bhaduri, said, “The objective of the PARAKH WoW campaign is to introduce students at 9 and 10 grades to 36 different sector skills and help them make informed choices for future.” Another focus of the campaign, she said, was to introduce children to latest in technology such as generative artificial intelligence (AI) and demonstrate to them the use of GenAI.
This, she said, was essential as the children of today will comprise the workforce of tomorrow.
Under the campaign, a comprehensive mapping has been done of the various skill initiatives of the Government of India. Explaining the mapping of job roles,
Creation of a WoW Corner or a Career Corner in every school where the workshop is being organized is an integral part of the campaign. The charts are being donated for permanent display at schools where the workshop is being held and they are being encouraged to organize similar workshop for sensitization of other neighbouring schools.
With the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) emphasising on vocational education as an important component of holistic development of children and preparing them for the needs of the 21st century, the role of PARAKH in setting standards of curriculum and assessment for vocational education in different boards becomes important.
The purpose of education is also to provide students with a broad and experiential introduction to different kinds of work and develop the required competencies. It is in assessment of these competencies that PARAKH is going to play an important role.
Aim of PARAKH WoW Campaign
a. Awareness generation : Awareness and sensitization to the required disposition, capacities, and knowledge, to be developed for school students, which will create the possibility of their joining the workforce.
b. Peek into the world of work : The workshop opens the window of possibilities for a range of career options – ones that are aspirational, as also those that are most relevant locally and contextually (if different), also new and emerging.
c. Dignity of work : Students are being provided exposure to various types of work so that they understand and appreciate the dignity of work.
d. Pathway to future : The workshops are in sync with current reality and resources of schools, while providing a pathway to the future. Students are being given an overview of what their future will look like if they choose any of the careers.
e. Introduction to AI : Students are being introduced to the concept of artificial intelligence through simple demonstrations / presentation / videos. They are being encouraged to enroll in specific basic online courses on this subject.
f. Creation of a WoW Corner : The identified school in every state is getting its own World of Work corner where charts on career options in different sectors are being put up for permanent display. Schools are being requested to create this WoW Corner at a strategic location where there is high footfall, which is near the office of the Principal and where parents are likely to see the options of different careers which their children can go into. Here we are enclosing some of the glimpses of this very useful workshop
