Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department Haflong, Dima Hasao Animal Husbandry and Veterinary is one of the major departments of Government of DHAC. The present administrative setup, i.e.

The Department is responsible for matters relating to livestock production, preservation, protection from disease and improvement of stocks and dairy development. This is an official Facebook group for feautring and creating awareness about the activites of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Haflong Dima Hasao District. The first Veterinary Dispensary was established at Chenikuthi, Guwahati with

Superintendent of Civil Veterinary Department under the British rule in the year of 1905. Initially, Veterinary Sector in the state of Assam was under Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department. The Department was divided into two zones comprising Jorhat as upper Assam Circle and Guwahati as lower Assam Circle headed by Veterinary Inspector.The Veterinary Assistant Surgeons and Supervisory Field Assistants worked in the dispensaries under the Veterinary Inspector. The Veterinary Inspector was responsible for regular inspection of Veterinary Dispensaries. This system ended in the year of 1940.The Department then came under Director, Veterinary with District Veterinary Officers at the District level. Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Assam came into effect from 1950.

The Hon’ble Executive Member (DHAC) of our concern department Shri. Monjit Naiding paid a visit to the Hadingma constituency, Dima Hasao, Assam to observe the ongoing development project approved by the WPT & Backward Classes Department, for the scheme "Construction of one Diary Unit for Enhancement of Milk Production and Procurring of Unutilized Swarm Buffalo milk."
The 300 farmers in the vicinity of the facilities offered by the concerned department would profit from this. After the shelter that was built for them is finished, villages with cattle, in particular bufflao, will use the facility. In order to finish the project as soon as possible, the department is monitoring it.

An interactive session on scientific rearing on Mithun Farming was held at the CEM's Conference Hall in Haflong, Dima Hasao, on August 22, 2024,under the initiative of Shri. Debolal Gorlosa, Hon'ble CEM of DHAC and Shri. Monjit Naiding Execuitve Memer DHAC i/c A. H Veterinary Dept.
The program was chaired by Executive Member, NCHAC, Shri.SamuelChangsan, Execuitve Memer i/c A. H Veterinary Dept. Shri Donpainon Thaosen (EM) and Shri Ingti (EM). The program was also attended by Secretary, NCHAC, Shri. Partha Jahari, ACS, Dy. Secys, NCHAC, Smt. Rebecca Changsan, ACS & Shri Prabhat Pegu, ACS and other officials.
Dr. G. Patil Director of ICAR-NCR on Mithun, Nagaland and Dr. K. K Baruah G.B Member of ICAR, New Delhi highlighted the program with an aim to educate tribal farmers of Dima Hasao on the scientific methods of Mithun farming, with officials from A.H. Veterinary Department, Haflong. The Dima Hasao Mithun appears not similar to the Nagaland mithun or in any other states. The presence of the mithun in Dima Hasao Assam is a significant animal science discovery, marking a new chapter in the State’s agricultural diversity and offering opportunities for local farmers, who can now have access to interventions specific to the mithun
The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council is Collaborating with research institutions like ICAR-NRC on Mithun for ongoing research and development in Mithun (MITHANG) farming in Dima Hasao will not only recognise one of the unique species of Mithun but also an opportunity for the farming practices among tribal farmers in Dima Hasao, ensuring the sustainable development of Mithun farming and contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region.

An awareness program on Mithun conservation and its significance was conducted at Choto Nianglo village, Laisong Constituency, Dima Hasao today i.e on 21.08.24. by ICAR - NRC (Mithun), Nagaland in collaboration with A.H & Veterinary Department, Dima Hasao. Discussion were made on ecological role of Mithun in maintaining ecosystem balance, potential benefits of Mithun rearing e.g., eco-tourism, sustainable livelihoods etc. and community-led initiatives and volunteer opportunities.
Dr. K.K Baruah, ICAR, GB member, New Delhi was the Chief Guest of the program, along with him the other dignitaries present were Dr. J Chumnah, Sr. Scientist, ICAR, NRC on Mithun, Nagaland, Dr. B. Bhatta, Deputy Director of Research, AAU, Khanapara, Dr. P. Goswami, Scientist, ICAR, NRC on Mithun, Nagaland. A.H & Vety. Deptt., Dima Hasao were represented by Dr. B.K Kakati, i/c Addl. Director, Dr. A.Phonglo, Manager, GPCPF and Dr. T. Thiek, VO, SVD, Hatikali. materials like gum boots, barbed wires, buckets, raincoats, mineral mixtures were also distributed among the Mithun rearing farmers. The list of Mithun rearing farmers of Dima Hasao will also be prepared within a very short time to be taken to ICAR, NRC- Mithun, in Nagaland for 4 days training on scientific rearing of Mithun.
