And just like that we reached the last day of this unusual yet eventful year. It has been a year of highs and lows - sharing with you all how the year has been for me.
This year I focussed more on 'Me' and my overall development. Along with this, I also used my time to learn more about disability rights and how to use my voice for the betterment of the community. I realised the power of story sharing and used it effectively to tell people how to deal with a loss, how to be an ally and how to manoeuvre a difficult time. This year I gave back to society in whatever way I could. I also upped my skills be it speaking or badminton or re-learning how to run and cycle.
I want to celebrate or note down things that happened this year that helped me appreciate life. in no particular order:
- Fought/dealt with COVID-19 in family – most difficult 1.5 months
- Lost my Grandma in March (her birth month at 92) who also made sure we're home before lockdown
- Filed Intervention application in the Supreme Court with Nipun Malhotra for reducing/removing GST on assistive devices used by PwD.
- Spent more time with family.
- Attended online courses
- Sponsored an above knee prosthesis for my friend's house help’s family
- Learnt to workout at home/ train at home
- Got myself a running prosthesis and re-learnt running
- Learnt cycling long distance – fell down quite a few times. It was like going back to childhood time
- Felt more empowered because of family support
- Donated complete KBC winnings to Gopichand Academy
- Time Next Generation Leaders and got featured on their Asia cover
- One of a Kind Barbie❤️
- Speaking at various forums on how to deal with lockdown
-Got new car for fam & started driving again
- Shared my story with numerous people through virtual talks at corporates, schools, colleges, events
- Got listed as BBC 100 women/Forbes 100 self-made women/ BBC indian sportswoman of the year nomination/ Cosmo magazine spicy noodles list/ Multiple publications wrote about me & I helped change the narrative on how people should write about people with disabilities

“Its going to be my year” is what I told myself at the start of 2020, and it indeed was!

How was your 2020?
