Yusufpur-Mohammadabad is a twin town in District Ghazipur of Indian State Uttar Pradesh. It is the home of The Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari (The first Non-European to be appointed as a Surgeon Doctor in a British Hospital in LONDON & also had been the President of Congress Earlier than Jawahar Lal Nehru. He played an important role in the negotiation of the 1916 Lucknow Pact and served as the League's president in 1918 and 1920. He was an outspoken supporter of the Khilafat movement, and led the Indian medical mission to treat the wounded Turkish soldiers during the Balkan Wars. Dr. Ansari served several terms as the AICC General Secretary, as well as the President of the Indian National Congress during its 1927 session. As a result of in-fighting and political divisions within the League in the 1920s, and later the rise of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Muslim separatism, Dr. Ansari drew closer to Mahatma Gandhi and the Congress Party. Dr. Ansari was one of the (Foundation Committee of Jamia Millia Islamia) founders and also served as the chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia university in Delhi soon after the death of its primary founder, Dr. Hakim Ajmal Khan in 1927. The present Vice-president of India MUHAMMAD HAMID ANSARI. Mohammad Hamid Ansari is the 14th and current Vice President of India. After Dr. Sarvpalli Radhakrishnan,Hamid Ansari is the only person two get elected for the post of Vice President of India at two consecutive terms. He also presently serves as President of the Indian Institute of Public Administration and Chancellor of Punjab University, Chandigarh. Ansari worked as an ambassador and served as Vice-Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University from 2000 to 2002. Later he was Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities from 2006 to 2007. In pre-independence era while all the Indians are fighting for the freedom, a local leader Dr. SHIV PUJAN RAI on 18th August 1942 with a bunch of freedom lovers try to host the Indian tricolor at the local tehsil,the British try to stop them but they cant be stopped so they starts Firing. In this incident 8 were martyred and few were injured but they succeeded in hosting the tricolor at the Tehsil Premises. Even today the Town celebrate the day of 18th August as SHAHEED DIVAS (Martyr Day). Yusufpur has a huge mandi(market) of vegetables, Food grains and Friuts, it serves the eastern district of Uttar Pradesh as well as significant areas of neighboring state Bihar. Yusufpur has a railway station which lies on the railway line linking Varanasi to Chhapra via Ghazipur and Ballia on North Eastern Railway Zone (India).
