Our Story
Centre of Plasma Physics - IPR, Sonapur, Assam, an autonomous institute under DAE, India, one of the remote campus of Institute for Plasma Research, Ahmedabad, India The Centre of Plasma Physics(CPP) was established in the year 1991 by Govt. of Assam as a research institute to pursue basic research in theoretical and experimental plasma physics. The centre started functioning from a rented premise at Dispur, Guwahati, before moving to it's own premises at Sonapur, Kamrup district, Assam. The center grew from a small group of scientists to a major research institute in North East India. CPP-IPR is headed by Acting Centre Director, Prof. B. K. Saikia and is managed by a Managing Board headed by Director, IPR. It has at present twelve faculty members, fourteen other staff and a number of research scholars and project scientists. The theoretical and experimental research is oriented towards basic plasma physics as well as programs that compliment the major programs at IPR.
