Assam Skill Development Mission is registered under Society Act in 2015 and is working under newly created Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, Govt. of Assam with the visions of capacity building of unemployed youth and to deliver quality skill training leading to meaningful employment, to stimulate economy of the state.

A Job Fair on employment opportunities in Japan’s agriculture sector was held at Hotel Novotel, Guwahati on 11th March 2026. The event was organized by the National Chamber of Agriculture, Embassy of Japan in India where five nos. of groups from Japan participated i.e. International Cooperative Association, Zuno, NCA, Mizudori and Hot Agriculture Group.

The Job Fair provided an International platform for students, alumni, and agri-entrepreneurs associated with the agriculture sector. More than 200 nos. of students and alumni from agricultural universities, educational institutions across the state, along with Japanese Language Trainees and Agri-stakeholders participated in the event.

Representatives from Japanese agriculture management entities conducted a briefing session and interacted with interested candidates on job prospects, working conditions, and career opportunities in Japan in agriculture sector.

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to work in Japan under the Technical Intern Training (TIT) and Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) programmes.

Ms. Debashree Mukherjee, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Govt. of India, visited Assam Skill Development Mission and North East Skill Centre on 10th March 2026. The visit took place in presence of Ms. Hena Usman, Joint Secretary, MSDE, Government of India, along with senior officials of Govt. of Assam, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), officials from MSDE and other dignitaries.

The visit aimed to review ongoing skill development initiatives in the state, discuss convergence between Central and State schemes, and deliberate on the future roadmap for strengthening the skill ecosystem in Assam.

During the visit, Ms. Mukherjee interacted with students and faculty members at NESC and the Japanese Language Training Centre (ASEAN Assam Academy), encouraging trainees to pursue skill education and explore emerging employment opportunities.

The programme also featured a meeting with the senior officials of the Government of Assam and representatives from various departments and organizations, where constructive discussions were held on the progress of skilling initiatives in the state and potential avenues for future collaboration in skilling and entrepreneurship.

Assam Skill Development Mission, in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of Assam, has implemented the Deen Dayal Divyangjan Punorsansthapan Scheme across the state. This initiative provides short-term residential skill training to Divyang candidates aged 18–46 years.

Under the scheme, persons with disabilities have successfully completed training in various trades like Beauty & Wellness, Baking Technician/Operative (Severe Hearing Impairment), Bamboo Work Artisan (Divyangjan – Locomotor Disability), Food & Beverage Service Assistant (Severe Hearing Impairment), Hand Embroiderer (Addawala) (Apparel) (SHI) etc. under the sector persons with disabilities.

The programme plays a vital role in empowering specially abled individuals by equipping them with industry-relevant and employable skills, thereby enhancing their access to sustainable livelihood opportunities. Overall, it reflects a focused and inclusive approach to skill development in Assam, fostering self-reliance and promoting long-term employment for persons with special needs.

Skill Yatra – Phase III, under Assam Skill Development Mission was officially launched at Biswanath College in the presence of district officials, faculty members, and departmental representatives.

The programme was graced by Dr. Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal, Madhurjya Kumar Parasar, Circle Officer, Biswanath, along with representatives from IQAC, ASDM, Employment Exchange, and faculty members from the Departments of Zoology and Political Science.

Addressing the students, Dr. Chinta Mani Sharma Principal, shared the vision and objectives of Skill Yatra, emphasizing its role in career development. Shri Madhurjya Kumar Parasar, Circle Officer, Biswanath highlighted emerging opportunities in tea tourism, the Skill India Mission, graphic designing, and government services, stressing the importance of career-oriented skill pathways.

The event concluded with the formal flagging off of the Skill Yatra Van, marking the beginning of district-level outreach activities aimed at empowering Assam’s youth.

Based on the performance in January 2026, Assam Skill Development Mission recognised its Star Performers of the Month during the interactive session Dakshata Manthan, held at the ASDM Conference Hall, Garchuk, Guwahati, on 21 February 2026. Sri Jugal Kishore Goswami, District Project Manager – Training, Tinsukia, was awarded the 1st Position, while Sri Aniruddha Borpuzari, District Project Manager – Training, Jorhat & Majuli, received the 2nd Position.

Both awardees expressed their sincere gratitude to Team ASDM for its continuous support and guidance. They also acknowledged the leadership and encouragement of Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, IAS, Principal Secretary, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Assam, Dr. M. S. An interactive session "Dakshata Manthan", with all District Project Managers – Training was held on 21st February 2026 at the Conference Hall of Assam Skill Development Mission, Garchuk, Guwahati.

The session was graced by Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, IAS, Principal Secretary, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Assam, in presence of Dr. M. S. Lakshmi Priya, IAS, Mission Director, ASDM, Smt. Snigdha Mitherpangsa, ACS, Assistant Mission Director, ASDM, and other senior officials of ASDM.

The meeting focused on district-wise skill planning, reviewing ongoing skill development initiatives, and identifying new opportunities for skill development. District Project Managers shared best practices and field-level achievements, highlighting their pivotal role in implementing training programs, mobilizing youth, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring quality outcomes across all districts.

Skill Yatra Phase III initiated by Assam Skill Development Mission has been successfully concluded in Sribhumi (24th district ) and Majuli (25th district).

The programme was formally launched at Nabinchandra College in Sribhumi and at Majuli University of Culture in Majuli, followed by on-ground sessions conducted across various institutes in both districts, including skill and career awareness activities and digital psychometric assessments.

With the completion of implementation in these districts, Skill Yatra continues its expansion across Assam, strengthening career awareness and promoting future-ready skills among students.

Skill Yatra – Phase III, initiated by Assam Skill Development Mission was formally launched in Hailakandi District, making it the 26th district in Assam to be covered under this student-centric skill awareness initiative. The launch programme was held at Mukti Yoddha Nanku Ghatowal Adarsh Bidyalay (Model H.S. School), Koyah Tea Estate, Hailakandi district on 14th February, 2026 in presence of esteemed dignitaries from the education and skill development sectors.

The event was graced by Tapash Dutta, Inspector of Schools, Hailakandi, as the Chief Guest, along with officials from DIPRO and ASDM, school leadership, local educationists, and members of the School Management and Development Committee.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Principal Mousumee Das, who highlighted the growing importance of skill development in preparing students for future opportunities. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest appreciated the Skill Yatra initiative and spoke on its role in guiding students towards informed career choices and skill-based pathways.

Under the CM FLIGHT Scheme, MIRAI Japanese Learning Centre, as a training provider of Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) has initiated Japanese language training for the youth of Assam to help them access global opportunities.

At present, 84 students across MIRAI JLC centres in Guwahati, Jorhat, and Dibrugarh are undergoing structured Japanese language training. The program also provides placement assistance to help candidates secure employment opportunities in Japan.

The training prepares participants for careers in sectors such as Nursing, Agriculture, IT, Hospitality & Restaurants, Accommodation, Construction, and other industries.

Through this initiative, these students are steadily advancing towards becoming globally competent professionals, showcasing the emerging talent of Assam on an International platform.

A student outreach programme was conducted at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on 13 February 2026 under the state engagement initiative, “Linking India–EU Migration Opportunities and the North-East Corridor.” The event sought to enhance awareness of higher education and student mobility options available across European Union member states.

The programme was graced by Smt. Gina Uika, Joint Secretary, Emigration Policy and Welfare Division, MEA, Govt. of India, Ms. Michiko Miyamoto, Country Director, International Labour Organization (ILO) and other representatives from the Delegation of the European Union to India, together with officials from Germany, Italy, International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) shared insights on academic courses, scholarship opportunities, visa procedures, and post-study career pathways in Europe. Interactive discussions helped students identify credible information sources, evaluate study opportunities, and make informed academic and career decisions.

The sessions underscored the importance of safe and regular migration channels while promoting stronger academic collaboration between India and the European Union. The programme drew active participation from students and faculty, reflecting keen interest in global education and career prospects.
