International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
GUWAHATI, June 26, 2026: The State Anti-Drug and Prohibition Council (SAPC), Assam, in collaboration with the NSS Unit and NCC of Narangi Anchalik Mahavidyalaya, organized a significant awareness program today to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Held at the Narangi Anchalik College campus, the event served as a clarion call to unify community efforts in the fight against substance abuse.
The event witnessed the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Smti. Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Member of Parliament, Guwahati; Dr. Tapan Das, MLA, Demoria; and Sri Deepkant Rana, Junior Intelligence Officer, Narcotics Control Bureau. They were joined by Dr. Lukendra Kakati, Principal of Narangi Anchalik College, along with faculty, staff, and students from the college and representatives from the SAPC, Assam.
In her address, Smti. Bijuli Kalita Medhi lauded the collective efforts of the SAPC and Narangi Anchalik College, noting that such initiatives send a powerful message to the youth and the citizenry at large. Both Smti. Medhi and Dr. Tapan Das emphasized the importance of community vigilance in prevention and highlighted the dedicated, persistent efforts of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam in leading the state’s rigorous battle against drug trafficking.
Expert insights were provided by Dr. Nisha Choudhury, Psychologist at Swagat Hospital, and Shri Dipanka Khataniar, Director of the Revival Wellness Society, who addressed the attendees on the psychological and societal pathways to recovery and wellness.
The program was further enriched by vibrant, high-quality cultural performances by the students of the college, symbolizing a commitment to a clean, healthy, and creative lifestyle. The event, supported by the coordination of SAPC officials, including Shri Bhaskar Das, ACS, CEO, State Anti-Drug and Prohibition Council, Assam; Sri Uttam Kakati (Accounts Officer), Manoj Kumar Chokraborty (Accountant), and Subhankar Kalita (Junior Assistant), and other staff concluded with a collective pledge to foster a drug-free society.
