The Department of Fisheries, Namchi District successfully conducted the 'One Day at School' awareness programme at New Secondary School, Namchi. Assistant Director Ugen Tseten Bhutia, along with Block Officer Nirmala Thapa, led the educational session for the students.
The programme focused on educating the students about the rich aquatic biodiversity of our state, with special emphasis on the indigenous fishes of Sikkim. Students learned about the ecological roles of these native species and the urgent need for their conservation to protect our natural water bodies.
In addition to environmental conservation, the session highlighted the growing potential of the fisheries sector. The students were made aware of the various educational and career pathways available in fisheries science, aquaculture management, and public service, encouraging them to consider this vital field for their professional future.
