On the occasion of World Menstrual Health Day, observed on 28th May 2026, NSS unit of Namcheybong Sr. Secondary School organized an awareness session to highlight the importance of menstrual health and hygiene.

The programme aimed to create awareness about the challenges many girls face during menstruation and emphasized the need for support, understanding, and care from society, especially from men.

Discussions were also held on the social taboos that still exist in many parts of India, where girls and women are often restricted from carrying out their daily activities during menstruation.

We were honoured to have Ms. Abhista Basnett, a talented 15-year-old football player from Namcheybong, Pakyong, as the Chief Guest for the day. Recently, she proudly represented India in a football match held in China against Japan and returned with inspiring experiences to share with the students.

During her speech, Abhista spoke about her journey, struggles, dedication, and experiences as a young athlete. Her inspiring words motivated the students and reminded everyone of the importance of prioritizing both health and personal goals with confidence and determination.

The session left a meaningful impact on everyone present, encouraging students to break stereotypes, spread awareness, and work towards building a healthier and more supportive society.

Principal Madam extended her heartfelt wishes to Abhista Basnett for a bright future and all her upcoming endeavours.

WORLD NO TO***CO DAY

Sikkim’s Youth Lead the Charge for a To***co-Free Tomorrow!

In lieu of 31st May being a holiday National Service Scheme (NSS) units across various institutions in Sikkim came together on 29th May to raise powerful awareness against the menaces of to***co use by observing World No To***co Day. Driven by the spirit of selfless service, our NSS volunteers organized a series of impactful activities to educate, engage, and inspire the community.

1. Standing United: Special Assembly & Pledge
The day kicked off with a solemn Special Assembly where students, faculty, and staff gathered with a shared vision.
NSS Captains led a powerful pledge, committing to a healthy, to***co-free lifestyle.
The Message: Insightful speeches by the captains highlighted the critical importance of the day, shedding light on the health, environmental, and economic hazards of to***co.

2. Taking It to the Streets: Awareness Rallies
Volunteers took the message directly to the public by marching through local market areas.
Equipped with vibrant banners and chanting high-energy slogans, the students caught the attention of shoppers and vendors alike.
Volunteers actively pasted "To***co-Free Facility" stickers across prominent locations to encourage businesses and public spaces to maintain smoke-free zones.

3. Creativity for a Cause: Competitions
To engage minds and spark critical thinking, a variety of talent-driven competitions were organized on campuses:Quiz Competitions: Testing students' knowledge on the dangers of substance abuse.
Slogan Writing & Painting Competitions: Letting creativity flow as students designed powerful visuals and catchy phrases advocating for a healthier, cleaner Sikkim.

4. Drama with a Message: Street Plays (Skits)
NSS volunteers put on emotional and thought-provoking Skit Presentations. The plays were performed both during the special assemblies and in busy market areas, using drama and humor to depict the harsh realities of to***co addiction and the beauty of choosing life over smoke.

Kudos to all the NSS Program Officers, volunteers, and participating institutions for making this drive a massive success. Let's keep this momentum going and work everyday towards a healthier, to***co-free Sikkim!
