Do you know that an AC train was started in India on 1 September 1928, whose name was Punjab Mail and in 1934 AC coaches were added to this train and it was named Frontier Mail...
At that time trains were divided into first and second class, only the British were allowed to travel in the first class. For this reason, it was converted into an AC bogie to keep it cool.
The British had created this system for their convenience, in which instead of AC. Ice blocks were used, which were kept under the floor...
This train started on 1 September 1928 from Mumbai's Ballard Pier station to Peshawar (now in Pakistan) via Delhi, Bathinda, Firozpur and Lahore, but in March 1930 it was diverted towards Saharanpur, Ambala, Amritsar and Lahore. Earlier, ice slabs were used to keep the bogies cool, but later an AC system was added to it.
This train was named Frontier Mail, which later started operating as Golden Temple Mail in 1996.
Frontier Mail was said to be one of the most luxurious trains of the British era.
Earlier it used to run at a speed of 60 km on steam, but now it is run on electric.
This train has been running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus) in Mumbai and Firozpur in Punjab since independence in 1947.
Today, this 24-coach train has AC as well as general and sleeper class bogies. Now its one-way journey is 1,930 km.
This train is more than 100 years old.
