Looking at the era of 21st century, it is evident that the time has come to spread awareness and explain significance of mental health and well being of oneself. In this competitive time, negative states of mind like stress, frustration, anxiety, depression and suicidal have infected our psyche unavoidably. Today’s youth especially students are thoroughly stressed out and pressurized related to th

eir careers, interpersonal relationships and life style as a whole. This has further made their approach more pessimistic. Students have become more vulnerable to risk taking, intolerance and impulsiveness. As a result, there is a noticeable increase in su***de rate among students which is a major concern not only for family but society at large. Considering these circumstances, Gandhinagar Police has taken a remarkable initiative by launching Telephonic Counselling Helpline- Jeevan Aastha under Suraksha Setu Project. This helpline aims at Su***de Prevention and Mental Health Care. Following are some of the salient features of this helpline:

24/7, 365 days availability of services
Helpline number 1800-233-333-0 is toll free
Confidentiality is maintained thoroughly
Issues like suicidal thoughts, addiction, depression, stress, anxiety, phobia, low self-esteem, academic difficulties, career conflicts, relationship issues etc. are addressed
It has a three layered functioning i.e. telephonic counselling by counsellors, face to face counselling through senior counsellor and expert intervention by renowned psychiatrists and psychologists if need be.

🧠 Empowering Future Leaders Through Mental Health Awareness
On 9th January, more than 70 students from Kadi Vishva Vidyalaya, the Serva Netritva program (a leadership training initiative), visited the Jeevan Aastha Su***de Prevention and Mental Health Counselling Helpline.
The purpose of the visit was to:
- Raise awareness about mental health and su***de prevention
- Understand the functioning of crisis helplines
- Encourage open conversations around emotional well-being
During the visit, students interacted with mental health professionals and gained valuable insights into how helpline services support individuals in emotional distress. The experience aimed to foster empathy, leadership, and a deeper understanding of mental health challenges in our society.
