VIKALP Ganderbal Hosts One-Day Workshop on Sheep Farming in Collaboration with Department of Sheep Husbandry, Ganderbal.
Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir – 10th February 2025, VIKALP Ganderbal, in collaboration with the Department of Sheep Husbandry, Ganderbal, successfully conducted a one-day workshop on Sheep Farming at the VIKALP centre. The event aimed to empower local farmers and stakeholders with advanced knowledge and techniques in sheep farming, sustainable agricultural practices and economic growth.
The event featured interactive sessions and discussions on key topics such as breed improvement, disease management, fodder production, and market linkages. Participants were also introduced to government schemes and subsidies available for sheep farming, enabling them to leverage financial support for their ventures.
The workshop was attended by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) VIKALP, Technical Officer Sheep Husbandry Department, Ganderbal, and the District Nodal Officer (DNO) JKEDI. In addition, renowned subject matter experts in the field of sheep husbandry and animal sciences shared their insights and expertise with the participants.
In his inaugural address, the CEO VIKALP emphasized the importance of adopting modern techniques in sheep farming to enhance productivity and profitability. He stated, "Sheep farming is not just a traditional occupation but a viable economic activity that can transform the livelihoods of our farmers. This workshop is a step towards equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to thrive in this sector."
The Technical Officer, Sheep Husbandry Department, Dr. Shabir Ahmad highlighted the department’s commitment to supporting farmers through technical guidance and infrastructure development. He added, "Our goal is to make Ganderbal a hub for sustainable sheep farming by integrating traditional practices with modern scientific methods."
DNO JKEDI, Mr. Mohummad Rafiq Mir spoke about the entrepreneurial opportunities in sheep farming and encouraged participants to explore value-added products such as wool, meat, and dairy. He also provided insights into the entrepreneurial support programs offered by JKEDI to aspiring farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.
The workshop concluded with a Question & Answer session, where participants had the opportunity to clarify their doubts and seek personalized advice from the experts. Over 50 farmers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders attended the event, expressing their appreciation for the informative and practical sessions.
