Andhra Cocoa and avenues for investment:
Cocoa prices have fallen to Rs 300/- per kg that is about 70% during this harvesting season in 2026 in Andhra Pradesh as compared to last season in
2025 when cocoa prices shoot up to Rs 1050/- per kg an unprecedented record rise. This was due to bad weather conditions prevailed last year in West Africa that produces larger quantities of cocoa beans for world markets. Andhra region
leads in cocoa production in the country by producing about 15000 Metric Ton per year and it's popularly referred to as " Andhra Amazon" underlining conducive agro-climatic conditions that exist here to produce best quality cocoa beans as comparable with Ghana and Ivory Coast which produce world's best quality cocoa.
Andhra farmers are deeply worried about falling prices as they leased cocoa farms at higher rates per acre which increased from 80,000/ to 2 Lakh per year this season expecting good returns same as last year's rise in prices. But the situation is otherwise now.
What is more worrying cocoa farmers is lack of adequate support from government to develop cocoa industry in the state despite having all favourable conditions and opportunities. The potential of cocoa production in the region has not been optimally harnessed at developing localised processing industry and thereby creating employment opportunities for local youth.
Atleast sincere plans and efforts should be made now to develop cocoa industry in favor of cocoa farmers of the state by promoting relavant interventions to develop the cluster.
While China that doesn't produce any cocoa entered into chocolate industry and trying to capture European Markets sensing rising demand for cocoa based products globally with its business strategies and investment capacity.
Andhra cocoa sector need to aim capturing global markets and gear up to compete with multi-national corporates that are using our cheap raw -material (the cocoa beans), labour and other resources to promote their business and gaining profits from chocolate industry.
At AntarVeda, we facilitate building business partnerships with corporate firms to harness global demand for our cocoa products.
