Delegation & Host: Club President Rotarian Bandana Ghosh and Vice President Rotarian Dr. Avisek Mukherjee from the Rotary Club of Durgapur Smart City visited the Graphite India Limited (GIL) Durgapur Plant on August 11, 2026, and were hosted by Plant Head Mr. Ranadeep Chakraborty, Rotarian Siddhant Jain (Purchase Head), Rotarian Chandra Prakash Dhanuka (AGM Technical), Mr. Anindya Mukhopadhyay (AGM Sustainability) and Mr. Sadananda Mukherjee (Manager HR).

​Plant History & Scale: Established in collaboration with the USA's Great Lakes Carbon Corporation and operational since 1967, the Durgapur facility is a pioneering synthetic graphite electrode manufacturer that has scaled up significantly over the decades to serve India's steel industry.

​Visit Activities: The delegation received a strategic briefing, toured the production floors while observing strict safety and SA8000 compliance protocols, and inspected the plant's NABL-accredited quality testing laboratory.

​Outcome: The visit concluded with interactive sessions that successfully strengthened community and professional ties between the Rotary Club and GIL.
