The Assam Cabinet has approved the introduction of the Karbi Welfare Autonomous Council Bill, 2025 — a landmark decision fulfilling the long-standing commitment made in the 2021 Memorandum of Settlement.

This new Council will ensure dedicated welfare, cultural preservation, socio-economic development, and targeted administrative support for Karbi people living outside the jurisdiction of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

This is a significant milestone for our community and a step toward ensuring inclusive growth and equitable opportunities for Karbis across the State.
