On 7 August 2025, the Office of Tibet, Latin America, hosted the 90th birthday celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in Arica, Chile.

The event was honoured by the presence of Kalon (Minister) Norzin Dolma of the Department of Information and International Relations-CTA, Deputy Vlado Mirosevic, former Mayor Gerardo Espíndola, Representative Jigme Tsering, the Director of La Casa del Tumbe, and members of local civil society.

This 12th celebration in Latin America marked the CTA’s global “Year of Compassion,” commemorating His Holiness’s legacy of nonviolence and service. A touring group of monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery, India, is supporting this initiative across six countries from June to August.

The celebration included a traditional enthronement of His Holiness’s portrait, long-life prayers, and a Mandala offering by dignitaries. From August 8–10, the monks are constructing a Sand Mandala of Avalokiteshvara at La Casa del Tumbe—symbolizing compassion and spiritual unity.

Deputy Mirosevic reflected on His Holiness’s impact on ethical leadership and Tibetan cultural preservation, recalling His Holiness’s visits to Chile. Kalon Norzin Dolma addressed the Tibetan struggle under Chinese rule and called on Chilean leaders and civil society to support Tibet through nonviolent advocacy and international solidarity.

The ceremony concluded with sacred music and chants for peace and His Holiness’s long life.
