GCIP INDIA On 3rd May 2013, the GEF UNIDO Cleantech Programme for SMEs was launched in New Delhi by the Ministry of MSME, UNIDO, GEF and FICCI.

India Cleantech aims to support clean technology innovators and entrepreneurs in India, and build the national capacity for clean technologies.The Cleantech Project will focus on linking innovators to investors. This project aims to promote clean energy technology innovation and entrepreneurship in selected SME clusters across India through a cleantech innovation platform and competition.. It prim

arily aims at identification and promotion of clean technology innovations. The idea is to promote sustainable development and reduce carbon footprint by introduction of new technology and innovation. The project will help to promote SMEs that can innovate and develop commercially viable clean low carbon technologies. A competition based approach will be used to identify the most promising entrepreneurs across the nation. This platform will provide entrepreneurs and technologists the resources needed to launch and create successful and sustainable clean technology companies. An ecosystem approach will be followed whereby a common platform will be established so as to strengthen interrelationship between academia, business and various other stakeholders including Government and NGO’s. The programme is focused on enhancing both emerging cleantech startups and the local entrepreneurial ecosystem and policy framework. It will adopt an inter-disciplinary approach involving SME clusters, national ministries, academia, industrial associations, state governments, partner agencies and autonomous research centers in the country and abroad to promote innovative technologies in selected energy intensive SME cluster across country. The cleantech approach and methodologies adopted under the project will build on the UNIDO’s Green Industry initiative to promote sustainable industrial growth. The Cleantech Project will focus on linking innovators to investors with a vision of making all SMEs in India, energy efficient and adoption of clean technology by 2025.
