Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Padma Shri - A Multifaceted Personality
Vikramjit Singh Sahney is known for his high credentials as a human crusader for human values and commitment towards upliftment of society at large. A champion of the cause for rehabilitation of Afghan Refugees, a Covid Warrior and a catalyst in providing skills to needy youth for social upliftment and financial inclusion. Vikramjit
is a social reformist, philanthropist and a cultural ambassador of India, who has been rendering selfless service for over past two decades as Chairman of NGO, Sun Foundation and International President of World Punjabi Organization having chapters in 20 countries to unite Punjabi NRIs with mainstream of India. Sahney was conferred with “Padma Shri” by Hon’ble President of India in 2008 for his extra ordinary and self-less contribution to the welfare of society. b) As a Covid Warrior, he launched humanitarian services in donating, First ever artificial intelligence enabled Corona mobile testing clinics and Life ambulances in Delhi NCR and state of Punjab for corona testing at the doorstep of most affected areas and villages. He, donated PSA oxygen generation plant to GMERS Hospital in Gandhinagar, Gujarat to save precious lives and lifesaving ECMO machine to Bala saheb hospital and organized langars for 100,000 people every day. Sahney has provided 1,000 Oxygen concentrators free of charge in Delhi, Punjab and other states to various Gurdwaras, Golden Temple - Amritsar and Red Cross Societies. He was instrumental in setting up of a 400- bed Covid Care Hospital at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj in Delhi. He also donated 2,000 D-type Oxygen Cylinders on SOS basis for rural areas in Punjab. c) For Afghan Refugees, Mr. Sahney evacuated over 500 Afghan Hindus and Sikhs by sending 3 chartered flights and rehabilitating them under programme “My Family, My Responsibility” by bearing monthly household expenses, free Medical and Health Insurance, education and skilling of their children. d) Established and running of Swami Vivekananda Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centres in Amritsar, Taran Taran and Jalandhar and providing skills to drug-addicts. He also administered oath for “say no to drugs” to 10,000 Punjabi youths at Amritsar. e) Setting up of World Class Skill Centres in Delhi and Amritsar for free skilling of over 1000 youths annually including 84 riot victims, Afghan refugees and poor youth for making them self- empowered. Over last 15 years, have empowered over 10,000 rural women by providing them skills as per report of Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC). f) As International President, World Punjabi Organisation (WPO) - a non-political international body to bring about 'Punjabi Renaissance' as a catalyst in outreach of WPO to over 22 countries including UK, US, Canada, Middle East, South Africa, Thailand, Singapore and SAARC Nations to foster social, economic and cultural bondage. He formed World Punjabi Parliamentarian Forum; organized annual Punjabi conferences; also organized 'Guru Manyo Granth' and 'Sarbansdani; granted scholarships to students, instrumental in installing an equestrian statue of Shere Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Parliament House of India apart from other activities
g) Setting up of Sikh Heritage and Multimedia Museum at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib inaugurated by Late Shri Arun Jaitley ji and first holographic Shri Teg Bahadur Multimedia auditorium at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj, opposite Parliament House. Vikramjit Singh Sahney has devoted himself with compassion and altruism, for many years towards the social causes across all spheres of Indian society, both at national level and international level.
