After a week-long dry spell, Delhi is likely to see a revival of monsoon activity from the night of 19 July.

Safdarjung has remained rain-free for the past seven days, while the maximum temperature has climbed to 39.2°C, the highest so far this month. Multiple weather systems are expected to bring the monsoon trough closer to Delhi, increasing the chances of light to moderate rain through much of next week.

Along with the return of rain, temperatures are expected to drop gradually from 20 July onward. If the forecast materialises, the prolonged wet spell could help reduce Delhi's monthly rainfall deficit and bring much-needed relief from the prevailing heat.

A fresh low-pressure area has developed over the North Bay of Bengal, marking the second monsoon system over the Indian Seas this season. The system is expected to remain over eastern India for several days, bringing widespread rain and heavy showers across East and Northeast India.

The prolonged presence of this system is likely to reduce the rainfall deficit over eastern parts of the country. However, central, western and northwestern India are expected to continue under a weak monsoon regime, with the rainfall shortfall likely to persist or even widen during the second half of July.
