🔹Alþingi samþykkti nýverið þingsályktun um að efna til þjóðaratkvæðagreiðslu um framhald aðildarviðræðna Íslands við Evrópusambandið. Atkvæðagreiðslan fer fram laugardaginn 29. ágúst 2026, en utankjörfundaratkvæðagreiðsla verður opin frá 27. júlí 2026.

🔹Hægt verður að kjósa í sendiráðinu og hjá ræðismönnum þar sem það á við. Nánari upplýsingar um staðsetningar, opnunartíma og fyrirkomulag verða kynntar þegar nær dregur.

🔹 Af þessu tilefni hefur utanríkisráðuneytið opnað sérstaka upplýsingasíðu á íslensku og ensku sem verður uppfærð reglulega eftir því sem nýjar upplýsingar berast. Sendiráðið mun sömuleiðis veita frekari upplýsingar þegar þær liggja fyrir, en í millitíðinni hvetjum við öll til að skoða upplýsingarsíðurnar, sem eru í athugasemdum hér að neðan.

This afternoon, the team set aside diplomacy for a bit and turned to something equally serious: an in-house Iceland quiz. Questions spanned geography, history, culture, language, and a few curveballs that had even the most seasoned Iceland hands second-guessing themselves.

It was one of those afternoons that reminded us why we love what we do. There is always something new to discover about Iceland, and always a good reason to gather around a table and test what you think you know.

Who won, you ask? Let's just say the competition was fierce and leave it at that. :)

Last week, Prof. Dr. Shilpa Khatri Babbar Professor of Sociology at Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies Delhi, presented her book, 'Step into Hindi: A Simplified Journey for Icelandic and English Speakers', to Ambassador Benedikt Höskuldsson.

Written during her time as ICCR Chair of Indian Studies at the University of Iceland, the book is not a grammar text or a scholarly work. It is something warmer than that: a cultural and linguistic bridge between India and Iceland, born out of genuine affection for the Icelandic people and their curiosity about India.

A beautiful reminder that the connections between our two countries are built as much by people as by policy.

The India-EFTA TEPA continued to take centre stage yesterday, as trade counsellors from across the EFTA nations gathered at the Embassy of Switzerland. Deputy Chief of Mission Tinna Sveinsdóttir and Commercial Counsellor Rahul joined fellow EFTA trade counsellors to share notes on how the agreement is taking shape on the ground, what is working, and where there is more to do.

The momentum is on, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with our EFTA partners to ensure the agreement delivers for businesses and people on both sides.
