Today, the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation hosted an insightful book discussion on “Cooperative Management: The Indian Perspectives (Nurturing Cooperation through Cooperatives)” at 11 Ashoka Road, New Delhi.

In his address, Chief Guest and author Dr. K. K. Tripathy, IES, Joint Secretary, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), highlighted the vital role of the cooperative sector in driving grassroots economic transformation. He emphasised that strengthening institutional management frameworks, encouraging collective participation, and aligning traditional cooperative models with modern administrative strategies are key to building a resilient and self-reliant India.

Opening the session, Shri Binay Kumar Singh Ji , Director, SPMRF, underscored the Foundation’s commitment to advancing research on grassroots governance and public policy. He noted that empowered cooperatives serve as a cornerstone for inclusive growth, bridging policy design with community-led development.

Valuable thoughts were also shared by Shri Apurv Kumar Mishra, Consultant, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM)

The concluding remarks were delivered by Shri Shivesh Pratap Ji, Senior Research Fellow, SPMRF, who reflected on the broader significance of cooperative institutions in India’s development journey. He highlighted the evolving structure of the cooperative system and the need for cooperatives to adapt to changing economic realities, institutional requirements and emerging opportunities, while retaining their core principles of collective participation and community-driven development.

Today, Shri Binay Kumar Singh Ji, Director, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation , met Shri Nitin Gadkari ji, Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, and presented him with a copy of the Foundation’s recently published monograph, POWERING PROGRESS: INDIA’S JOURNEY TOWARDS ETHANOL BLENDING AND BEYOND.

The discussions reflected on the opportunities ahead as India continues to balance rising energy consumption with its broader goals of economic growth, energy security and environmental sustainability.

Building Partnerships, Sharing Ideas, Creating Impact

On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF), had the privilege of hosting a distinguished delegation from New Zealand for an enriching conversation on shared experiences, values and possibilities for future cooperation.

The delegation comprised Ali Hamlin-Paenga, Hon. Nanaia Mahuta, Jordon Robertson, Dr Jay Whitehead, Hon. Aupito William Sio, Karlene Puriri, Shalom Haenga, Tia Ashby and Victoria Carroll.

The interaction centred on indigenous approaches to policymaking, community-led development, shared values and common aspirations, providing an opportunity to reflect on the experiences of India and New Zealand and the possibilities for learning from one another.

The conversation also brought a Global South perspective to the discussion, highlighting the importance of inclusive policymaking, community participation and locally rooted approaches to development, while exploring shared goals for the future.

We were also joined by faculty members from the University of Delhi, including Prof. Kumar Ashutosh, Head, Department of Continuing Education and Extension, and Dr. Manish Karmwar, Department of African Studies, whose participation added valuable academic perspectives to the dialogue.

The exchange reaffirmed the importance of institutional, academic and people-to-people engagement in building enduring partnerships and creating meaningful avenues for cooperation between India and New Zealand.

Strengthening India–Germany Knowledge Partnerships

A productive and insightful interaction as Ms. Judith Weinberger-Singh, Resident Representative, Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) India, met Shri Binay Kumar Singh, Director, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation.

The discussion explored avenues for future collaboration between the two institutions, with a focus on meaningful exchanges of ideas, research, policy dialogue and knowledge-sharing on issues of mutual interest.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to share a copy of SPMRF’s recent Monologue on the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), reflecting the Foundation’s continuing engagement with contemporary policy and institutional questions.
