Today’s spotlight: Anabio Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
Conventional sanitary pads are classified as hazardous waste and must be landfilled or incinerated, yet 80 % remain unprocessed.
Anabio has developed self-destructing, biodegradable pads that dissolve in flushless toilets and fully break down in sewage within weeks. This innovation prevents land- and water-pollution, reduces pathogen spread, eliminates the need for sanitary-waste segregation, and improves menstrual health and hygiene.
Pilot trials are currently under way with 1,000 women volunteers.

Today’s Spotlight: CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Kerala

The institute has developed a moisture-resistant, food-compatible bio-resin coated paper for food packaging with repulpable potential.

The bio-resin was synthesized by acrylation of oxidized soybean oil, followed by grafting with amino alkoxy silane (aminopropyl triethoxy silane). A solvent (e.g., ethanol or ethyl acetate) was added to adjust the viscosity to meet industrial requirements. The bio-resin production was scaled up to 5 L and 50 L in an industrial setup. The bio-resin formulation was applied to paper rolls using a hot air conveyor (air knife roll-to-roll coating setup). The coated paper underwent analysis and characterization to evaluate its properties.
