In India, there are 564 existing wildlife sanctuaries covering an area of 122509.33 km2, which is 3.73% of the geographical area of the country (National Wildlife Database, Dec. 2021). Another 218 sanctuaries are proposed in the Protected Area Network Report covering an area of 16,829 km2.
