A water hole full of water right behind the Motichur Forest Rest House after restoration is so inviting for wildlife. It is a delight to see elephants bathe here. The Motichur FRH built in 1934 is a heritage property bang on the Dehradun-Haridwar highway. A sprawling bungalow with a huge ground in front. It is
very common to see deer and sambhar graze here. Overnight stay at the FRH and early morning visit to the Koelpura chaur and the machan is worth doing for assured wildlife sighting.

Rajaji Tiger Reserve is fragmented by human habitation at various places. This makes animal movement from one area to another difficult especially in case of elephants who travel large areas in search of food and water. The Dehradun –Nazibabdad road is one such ‘corridor’ or passage in the buffer zone of the reserve, elephants cross to go to the Ganga to drink water. They cross the road near 'Theri pull'. This road has heavy traffic especially because of pilgrim going to Chandi Devi. Forest dept personnel are usually around to hold traffic while the elephants cross the road. There has been not been any unpleasant incidence so far but we do need to think for future.Animals too have a right of way!

has always been an active destination for visitor's, its entry gate being close to Haridwar. is a huge draw for the zone. The 35 km circuit through the various chaur's and sot's is a wonderful experience for all. The forest changes from the sal to moist deciduous in the
hills to teak. Sighting of deer, wild boar, pheasant, elephant, tigers and leopard (if you are lucky) and a huge array of birds is a wonderful experience. The open jeep safari starts from 1st Feb-31st March at 6:30am - 9:30am and 2:00pm - 3:30pm in the evening. From 1st April -1st June the time will shift half an
hr back. Guides are available. Don’t forget to ask your guide the names of the chaur’s and sots’s you cross.
