The principal landmark in the history of tea research in south India, was the establishment of a Tea Experimental Station in Gudalur in 1926. During the last seven and half decades, this research organisation, now known as the UPASI Tea Research Foundation (UPASI TRF), had rendered yeomen service to the tea industry in south India. The remarkable achievements of the south Indian tea plantations in

the production and productivity of tea bear testimony to the significant contribution of UPASI TRF in the fields of research and extension.UPASI-TRF is notified as Public Authority in terms of Section 2(h) of the RTI Act 2005 (Ref:No.1/2/Sectt/2005/2435) with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department of Commerce.
