Nanmangalam Lake Protection Volunteers Group Vanam & Neer Foundation and Jalarakshana, following the efforts of Mataji Gnaneswari, organized a meeting on 15 June 2024 at Jayendra Nagar Park, bringing together all the volunteers to discuss the protection and restoration of Nanmangalam Lake Following this meeting, the restoration and protection activities for Nanmangalam Lake have continued with the cooperation and support of volunteers,school students, NGOs, government officials, local residents, and associations.
Through our continuous efforts, we have so far met elected representatives, the Tambaram Corporation Commissioner, Mayor,WRD officials, District Collector, Department Secretaries, and other government officials more than 100 times, consistently following up on various works related to the lake.
On 12 June 2025, District Collector Mr. Arun, IAS initiated water hyacinth removal work at Nanmangalam Lake. The WRD also undertook water hyacinth removal activities.
Sholinganallur Ex MLA Mr. Aravind Ramesh raised the issue of Nanmangalam Lake restoration in Assembly and requested necessary action. Tambaram Corporation Commissioner Mr. S. Balachandar, IAS also supported efforts & conducted surveys to prevent sewage from entering the lake, including measures related to UGD.
With the new government having taken charge, we have once again submitted our request for the restoration of Nanmangalam Lake to Mr. Sarathkumar, Tambaram MLA and Minister for Human Resources.
We also submitted our request to Mr. Saravanan, Sholinganallur ECR MLA, with help of TVK Union Secretary Mr. Anand. As a continuation of these efforts, Mr. Saravanan has raised the Nanmangalam Lake issue in the Legislative Assembly today.
On behalf of everyone involved in the Nanmangalam Lake restoration initiative, we sincerely thank Mr. Saravanan for raising the issue in the Assembly.
We once again request that the necessary lake restoration works be implemented at the earliest and that concrete steps be taken to ensure the long-term protection and rejuvenation of Nanmangalam Lake.
